I’m looking at getting sliders, do i really need a front and rear steel bumper though?

Weight wise what am I looking at? I have a rear and front receiver for what it's worth

Depends what you plan on doing, for the light off roading I do sliders and a decent skid plate are all I need. I have thought about steel bumpers, but figure I will get some if/ when I do damage to my front bumper I will just replace with something after market. Damage to the side of you truck can't be repaired with slider install, so I would recommend getting those sooner than later.

True, what about that lil piece on the bed at the rear bumper? Wouldnt one need a slider ther? I would incorporate it with the rear bumper to wrap around it till it reaches the rear fender flare

Weld on tends to be cheaper, but I went with bolt on.

I'd consider a hitch skid (big fan of WarFab in general) in lieu of a rear bumper. Much lighter, cheaper, and will protect well against dragging your rear. With a front receiver you could actually run them on both ends....

The bumper adantage is side protection if you're sliding in rock gardens (rear) and approach angle (front). If you aren't finding yourself limited by approach or side-sliding, I'd start minimal and work up as/if needed.

Should give you a good cross-section of options.

I'm not sure what you're looking for with:

Are you looking to protect the rear quarter-panel of the cab like this:

Or of the bed more like this? (I know you're not looking for the full bumper)

Copy. I'm not aware of any that don't include the rear bumper; the engineering on that would be difficult due to the applied torque. Hopefully one of the other 1st gen folks knows of something or you can go custom. Good luck!
