That's an inaccurate way to check the oil.....all you'll pick up is sludge.

I check mine bi weekly. Which is about ever fill up for me. It's just a habit I guess. The only way I've found to get a decent reading is too let the car sit for a at least a hour before checking the dip stick

This has to do with our 03 accord. Since I can't get under it I have always had a reputable shop change the oil pretty much at around 4,000 miles I never ever checked the dip stick. About a year ago I let the oil change go about twice that long and my oil light came on. The oil wasn't even registering on the stick. So....I don't know if it is using more oil cause of high miles or, if it has always used a little oil and by not checking it I never knew it. Moral of the story is you better keep an eye on it.

Every time I fill up! This is what my dad taught me. This is what his dad taught him. It's a good chance to see what's going on under the hood while waiting on the truck to fuel up.

I check mine every time I wash it. Since I wipe down the engine bay every time it is a 10 sec job.

It's a Toyota not an Audi. Last oil change I checked the dipstick after fill and 5k miles later the line is in the same place. An Audi on the other hand burns a quart every mile so you gotta do an oil refill every time you fill the gas tank.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
i check my tacoma every other weekend or so, depending on when the hood is up.

my play truck (81 toyota) i check every time i take it out to play, i went about a month without checking it because i didnt take it out to play, just started it and moved it around and hauled stuff from front to back at the house around the block. the last time i went out to play i loaded it on the trailer and noticed the oil pressure gauge didnt work, after i drove it to the gas station.. checked the oil, nothing on the stick. no big deal, added 2 quarts of 15w 40 rotella. nothing on the stick. added 1 qaurt of 10w 40 mystery oil, drop on the end. added another 2 qaurts of oil, just over full line... :) perfect

For what its worth. the 81 will burn/leak 2-3 quarts in a day of playing. more if i lay it over or roll it like last time out. This is the lousdest, rattliest, worst burning oil engine in history but it runs like a champ once its going. Been raggin the shit out of it for more than a year, and about 5k miles on the street. This engine was in the scrap pile and i put it in because it was the only early 22r i had at the time. Its the best worst engine.. ever.

it never gets oil change, just oil added. i have changed the filter every few times out. and i usually run 15w 40 because it lasts longer, but i dump whatever oil i have in it. Even poured 1 qrt of gear lube in it because it was all i had on the trail and it was out.

i love this POS soo much that when it goes, im going to rebuild it. I have more engines for it, but this ones getting rebuilt.. if the rods dont come through the block.

the first engine in the 81 (origional) lost compression at 370k and i drove it 500 miles on 3 cylinders. It didnt burn any oil to speak of, about 1/2 quart every 3k change.

my corolla, that my ex wife drove 500 miles with 2 qrts in it burned oil on the replacement engine with 52k, about 1/4 qrt per tank, i did a bunch of research on the 1zz and they had fouling problems with the rings and cheap oil/poor oil change schedule so i guessed that the engine was maintained poorly.

I prolly check once a month now.... Not sure why, maybe just a habit from older cars.
I hear that people with the urd superchargers don't really have access to the dipstick?
If that's actually true, I'd never be able to feel safe.

I never check the oil in between changes. The same amount comes out everytime that I put in 5,000 miles before, so until that changes, I don't really see a need. It just doesn't burn or use any oil.

235,000 here, still doesn't use any oil. switched to synthetic at 141,000, and the oil stays fairly clean , change every 5000 or so, use only Toyota OEM filters....

    I hardly ever check...

I check my oil on my older vehicles at every fill up. On the newer ones about every other fill up but always before a trip out of my local area. I have always done most of my own maintenance. I will check my oil immediately after an oil change then several times during the first week after a change. Murphy is always out there watching. He has caught me a few times. Old 4x4 explorer oil filter was a real pita to change. Left the old gasket on once. Never did that again. What a mess.
