    Both great movies IMO.

I think you are right. It's scary but technology (internet) has made it easier for basement madmen to create harmful things and we do not have the defense mechanisms in place to react quickly (at least I don't think we do ).
Look how they handled something like 9/11 or Katrina. There are people out there who would LOVE to eliminate the human species and I'm sure they are trying to concoct something.

Cool topic guys...and gals......actually this is my main hobby. Both the wife and myself are members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and active club members. The universe is absolutely beyond human comprehension even though we keep trying. It's a fun science though. As for life...it has to exist other places in my opinion. As for intelligent life...I sometimes doubt it exists on our planet!!!

If you like astronomy check out www.cloudynights.com it is to astronomy on the net what tacomaworld is to tacos!

If not God, then where did the first organism of life begin?
These are the same scientists that came up with evolution?
The same evolution from the above referenced scientists?

    +2

.....great thread V, rep for you.......please take no offense to my post V.......I'm just saying..........:)

    Now we're talkin!!

A good friend of mine once said.... "The stupid people (those who lack common sense) keep having more kids while the smart people keep having less kids"

In the scheme of intelligent life : Everything and anything we've learned in the past about everything, has to be learned and passed along to the next generations or else we'll never exceed forward. Hopefully, our childrens children have the noggin to keep technology moving forward.

I'd love to think that humans can advance into technology & science to travel like STar Trek. That'd be cool... and I hope I can be resurrected to see it.

    No offense taken...

I believe in science not religion. Evolution could be a man-made story but it's more believable (to me) than religion...which could also be a man-made story. Don't want to derail the topic on this because that could be a L O N G thread! There really is no answer as to where the first organism came from.

There is a lot of debate as to its authenticity but several scientists believe they found fossilized remains in meteorites.
    http://www.panspermia.org/zhmur1.htm

It's astonishing what some organisms can survive. I believe they are transferred from one destroyed planet to another and spread from there. Yes, the process takes billions of years but space isn't in a hurry.

Evolution once created dinosaurs. They were wiped out by a severe atmospheric change (maybe caused by collision with a comet). Then we evolved again...eventually into what you see today. Who knows how many times this has happened on our planet.
5 billion years ago, humans may have walked our planet. That much time can hide just about anything.

Our scientists may be crazy smart but they may also still think the world is flat (not literally but you get the point).

I think it is foolish to think that this is the only planet that has life on it. Those that think that , are living in a shell or have their heads buried in the sand. We are puney (sp?) compared to the Universe.

Wow...15 pages to debate something that is IMPOSSIBLE to prove one way or another. Sounds like this thread is headed in the same direction :D

We'll never be able to prove any of it so arguing is just a way to pass time.

Anyway, here's an interesting Wiki - The Age of the Universe = Current theory and observations suggest that this is between 13.5 and 14 billion years.

^ I don't believe that at all. I think the universe is older than time itself. Nothing created it, nothing is controlling it and it has not "birthday". It just IS :)

Kinda stupid on scientists part to say the universe does have a birthday. If so, what existed before the universe? What was there that exploded to create the universe. If god created it, what created god? What did he do before he created the universe?
Such HUGE questions but it really helps expand the mind!

I believe that our minds cannot comprehend the vastness of the Universe or how it was created.

I think there's way to much crap out of control on this planet for us to worry about what's going on on others. "Scientists" want to go and study life on other planets, but they'll never set foot in Southcentral LA and figure out those motherf$$$s...

Awesome!!! Rep to you for posting the perfect video to summarize this thread. And to start off to Floyd...

It's one thing to read us talk about how big the universe is but it's another to see it through the eyes of the hubble. Good stuff!

And yes, bears to shit in the woods but do not wipe. Like my dog, they probably just leave those dingle berries hang off their ass hair while they walk around eating other animals.
