I wouldn't worry. Do the regular maintenance and save money for the stuff you know you're going to have to replace out of warranty. Like tires, bakes, transmission fluid, and wheel bearings which I expect to die at about 100K mi. Etc.

Gone are the days when a engine rebuild comes at 150k, and 200k was an extremely lucky owner. cars and trucks now go 3-400k with just basic maintenance. That's one of the main reasons I got my truck. I don't have to worry about the mileage.

Your wife does understand that vehicles are intended to be driven, right?

If you do your maintenance, mileage will not hurt your car. TIME is what hurts cars as seals shrink and stiffen, bushings wear out, hoses rot, etc. This isn't caused by high mileage - it just takes time for cars to get to high mileage, so mileage and problems tend to run together.

Yes, mileage will raise a few costs - bearings will go sooner, and you need to service your vehicle more often. But you're not doing it any harm.

I don't drive enough to worry about the milage. I bought the truck mainly for towing the boat up to the lake and playing around offroad once in a while. Since buying the truck new back in 07 I've never bothered to check what kind of milage it gets...if I wanted something for good mileage I wouldn't have bought a truck.

I bought my truck in the end of December and already have 14000km on it, so about 9k miles. I'm on par for about 18k miles per year. It's a vehicle. The milage goes up, not down. Drive it and enjoy it.

My father-in-law has a 04 with like 150k on it and it runs just as well as my 01 with 55k miles. And resale value on these trucks is great so you dont have to worry about depreciation. Drive the truck!

    back to bone stock.
thanks for the fodder for the conversation with the wife.

she loves the tacoma!! so much i havent driven in two weeks. she has it. her subaru forester is a great car, but it has a bit too much road/wind noise to be a great roadtripper.

i love cruising the open road with the tacoma. it has never let me down. hell, i bought it in LA, and flew down sight-unseen and bought it used from some kid. my first drive was a ROADTRIP back home!! (on the baldest tires)

i dont see myself selling it, so i will drive it till it quits.

Nope. Almost 59k on mine and I'll keep it till it dies. First vehicle I can say that about.

This has proven itself several times to me. A truck with 100K on it in five years is preferable to a truck with 30K in eight years. My brother and I had near identical used Dodge Dakotas. Mine had the 30K, and I maintained it very well. He bought his with 100K, beat the hell out of it and barely even changed the oil. I was the one with the electrical issues and fluid leaks to deal with. He rarely had an issue with his.

Of course, that's not quite a fair comparison. 30K in eight years is far below average miles. But you get the idea.

I don't worry about mileage at all, for my Tacoma at least, I do try to keep the miles off my wife's Audi though. I've been trying to get her to commute in my Tacoma and I'll take her car the 2 miles to the train station. I think she'll at least alternate weeks.

05' with 94k. I have to turn in the 08 Rav 4 lease in July so I have driving that since I found to that Toyota doesnt pay you back for the extra miles. We did the extra miles for the extra pay will turn it in with around 35k on it and we paid for 45k.....

You buy vehicles to drive them. If you need to drive 5,000 miles a year, that's what the vehicle is for. If you need to drive 50,000 miles a year, that's what the vehicle is for.
