My dog has been in pain for 3 days and I took him to the vet and got x-rays. Will long story short he has cancer next to his heart and has two weeks to live (he struggles to walk). He is a Golden retriever that is six years old. He has been such a loyal dog to me. Breaks my heart... he was always my co- pilot in my truck.(picture below he's the dog on the left)

damn man... so sorry to hear. It is always hard to lose your best friend. keep you head up. Spend as much time with him as you can. Just think positive. At least he won't be in pain anymore when he passes.

---------------------

Lord take this pet if it be your will
she's so young and small and she's oh so ill
Don't let her suffer we ask you please
take this little soul and set our mind at ease

Guide her to Heaven where she'll be at home
where with all the other animals; she can play and roam
Playing all day up in the meadows above
cradled in Your arms covered with Your love

With no more aches and no more pains
she'll play in bright sunshine no more rain
We'll see her again we know we will
so take her Lord if it be your will

John Quealy

Truly sorry to hear about your friend and companion. Unfortunately, many of us have gone through this and many more will. Something to think about. If you had not had known this great friend, you would never have known the love. There would have been no room in your heart for the next friend you will surely find. God bless. Ken

Oh my God, I can't imagine the pain you're feeling now. I was laying on the couch last night with my black lab / boxer mix and for whatever reason thought about the day when she will leave us. I had to quickly think of something else. This is my first dog and she just turned 2. We rescued her around 1.5 years ago. She is our child and means the world to me and my wife. Even my wife says I'll need a room with padded walls if something ever happens to the dog.

You'll be on my mind for quite some time to come.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

We get the Dog we need. All things must pass, and few are sadder than this. We lost our 10 year old Misha over 3 years ago. Respect your friend as yourself, and help him have as dignified a passing as was his life.
You are obviously a dog-person. Soon a new soul will work its way into your heart, but nothing replaces those lost. Focus on the good.
Nothing captures the nature of Dog like the first verse of this Epitaph

Epitaph to a Dog
Lord Bryon, 1808

Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
and all the virtues of Man without his Vices.

This praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
if inscribed over human Ashes,
is but a just tribute to the Memory of
BOATSWAIN, a DOG,
who was born in Newfoundland May 1803
and died at Newstead Nov. 18, 1808.

When some proud Son of Man returns to Earth,
Unknown by Glory, but upheld by Birth,
The sculptor’s art exhausts the pomp of woe,
And storied urns record who rests below.
When all is done, upon the Tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been.
But the poor Dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his Master’s own,
Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonoured falls, unnoticed all his worth,
Denied in heaven the Soul he held on earth –
While man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive heaven.

Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power –
Who knows thee well must quit thee with disgust,
Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy tongue hypocrisy, thy words deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye, who perchance behold this simple urn,
Pass on – it honors none you wish to mourn.
To mark a friend’s remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one – and here he lies.

Sorry to hear about that man. I know exactly what you are going through. My dog last summer was diagnosed with cancer. He has been with me since I was 4 years old... All the best man, just remember how well you treated the dog and how your dog was lucky to have a great owner like you.
