Have you thought of a second opinion and maybe take your friend to a Vet hospital where you can be extra sure of the diagnosis? If it is true then show your love and let your friend go with a peaceful goodbye in your arms. What would you want if you were in his place...suffering would not be in the equation in my opinion.

You have loved and been loved! Don't show selfishnes by hanging on. And when you can adopt another and remember how/who you were taught by your best friend and in this your friend will never be forgotten...

Good luck it's a hard road to travel but I believe it will show the love and kindness you were taught....

So sorry to here this. The hardest part of having a dog is how close you get to them and things like this can happen.Even though he is still young just take solace in the fact you gave him a great life while he was here. Many animals never get that chance.

I feel for ya. I had an Australian Sheppard that I got when I was 6. She was the best dog anyone could ask for, although maybe not the brightest. Played baseball with me and would chase the balls i hit and bring them back a little worse for wear. Got ran over a few times. Chased and caught a few lawn mowers so she had no front teeth. ran into numerous trees chasing tennis balls and baseballs. Woke up one day and went downstairs like normal to find her completely blind and walking/limping in a circle next to the couch. turns out she had a stroke and went blind and lost almost all movement on the right side of her body. the vet gave her 1 week and she was obviously in pain. she mad it 13 years and I had to have her put down that day. I want to get another aussie some day because she was so great but idk if i will ever find another dog that I love as much as her.

Im real sorry to hear about this bud. My wife and I have 2 dogs ourselves. Our chihuahua, Esse (like "friend" in mexican..haha), was diagnosed w/ Lymphoma last summer at 6 yrs old. He went thru chemo for about 6 months..getting blood work and shots every week and it went into remission. Well now its back and we have decided not to put him thru chemo this time.
I know exactly whet ur going thru. It's very hard to just sit back and not do anything. All u can do is make sure that they are happy for their remaining days. Sounds like ur little buddy had a real good life. Hang in there.

Really sorry to hear that, I can relate. The best dog I ever had only lived a little over 5 years, he came down with a disease called IMHA which basically causes the body's immune system to attack it's own red blood cells. After 2 months of treatment and over $5000 of medical expenses he died in our home. Looking back it would have probably been best to end his suffering early.

When its time you will know. I can't explain it, but your dog will let you know. It will be the hardest thing you will have to do, but it will be right. Don't avoid the signals, just spend time and watch him. Funny thing about these breeds, they are so damn loyal, they'll suffer and do everything to keep you from knowing it - but you will.

My best to you and yours.

I lost my 13 yr old cat to cancer out of nowhere. Was hyperthyroid at first and then BAM- cancer of the intestines. Cost $1300 for testing including ultrasounds. He was my best bud for all those years. I couldnt have a dog b/c of living in apartments, but he was like a dog in many ways... Greeted me at the door, woke me up in the morning, VERY loyal and for some reason, VERY dependent on me. It was last August and I sometimes still look for him. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Watching your best friend suffer is a hoorible thing to go through. I wish you and yours the best through this difficult time. God Bless.
