    Hi, I have a 2000 regular cab 5lug
I tend to put about 12 gallons in when the needle is at E on the gauge. I think I have the 15 gallon tank but I'm not 100% sure. I'm also not willing to run out of fuel on Los Angeles freeways in the middle of summer to find out how deep my tank is.

Does the 18 gallon fit under my truck? I want more range and fewer fuel stops
I'm already working on upping MPG with light load, tire pressure etc.

    thanks

PS i DID search and I can't find this question in here. I did find pics of the big tank that make me think it will fit

There's a guy who put a (iirc) suburban fuel tank in his truck. It was a 4x4, but the frames are identical between the 5 lugs and 6 lugs (more or less). He does long range adventure driving out in the boonies though. Doesn't seem like the work involved would be worth it for your application.

Thanks I’ve seen that thread and it looks like a nice fit BUT It is more than I want to get into. And if i went dual tank I'd probably want a safety sell at the rear

Just hoping for a Toyota part that gets me a little further between fuel stops.

I think the 4x2 models got the 15.8 due to it being a little more shallow? It could also have just been a little shorter? Wish I could find a pic for comparison.

Yes you can change them out. I did it in my 5lug. The crossmembers that they mount to are the same. You will also need new longer mounting straps front and rear, and longer fule pump bracket and float. As the 18 gallon tank is deaper.

My reg cab 4x4 3.4 came with the 15 gallon tank,
    Interesting,
would be sweet to have an 18 gallon tank in there.
    Didn’t know it was possible

yes, if you have a 5lug, you have the 15 gal tank

did the swap on someone's truck and yeah, it does fit and bolt identical, but you'll need the longer fuel tank strap. Fuel pump itself is the same for the 15 gal and 18 gal tanks. Sending unit and fuel pump bracket aren't the same (18 gal are slightly longer) but they come together as a part, so only need to change the sending unit.

Also, 2001-2004 tanks won't fit on your 2000 (or earlier) truck, as the EVAP system on these is mounted onto the tank instead of under the hood, like yours. Fuel pump is the same, though

That's odd that you have a 15 gallon tank. Both 6lug reguler cabs that I parted out had 18 gallon tanks.

i took the hubcaps off and someone else bent the front bumper for me.

    WOW, great info guys thanks!

I will start the search for a 1995-2000 18gal tank, straps, sending-pumping package.

I wonder if my Tank reads empty after 12gal due to the lack of warning light on non tach trucks? i can see a 3-4 gallon buffer being smart if you (toyota) are too cheap to put a light in the dash. Or maybe it's just odd resistances between sender and gauge.

I was thinking that the larger tank must fit just based on the idea that a V6 4x4 crew cab with short box could have it?

Thanks again! I'll document it as it happens.

So here is the difference in the pump assembly. The 1 on the left is from a 15 gallon and the other is from 18 gallon.

Very nice, probably easier to just buy a complete 18 gallon tank used with the sender in it and fuel pump too

    Nice picture thank you

This also informs about the general depth/height/clearance difference of the larger tank.
