    Hey folks,

    New to the forums here..
Me and my wife went to go test drive some new taco's and fell in love with them.

Dilema though, I wanted the TRD Offroad manual transmission, but she wanted the double cab Sport model.

I agreed to sacrifice and go with the doublecab sport but... they only make it a short box (5ft) if you go with the 6spd manual transmission.

Are there any 2nd Gen tacoma's (2005-2009) that came in 6spd manual double cab with a long box?

I was told that they do not. I wanted a DCab (extra room) with a Long box (for my bike) but it is not to be...

Is an automatic a deal killer? I am normally a die hard stick-shifter, but when we shopped for my wife's TRD Sport, I just wasn't that thrilled with the 6 speed - short gears and that annoying "rev-up" it does during shifts - we went with the auto and are suprisingly pleased - the auto even gets better mileage than the stick!

Give the auto another look, I have been driving manuals for 30 years and if I had to do it over after buying the 6 speed I would be in an auto.

As mentioned above it has this weird rev between shifts which also happens when you lift your foot off the accelerator, it takes several seconds before you feel any engine braking taking effect.

Call me crazy but I am the kind of guy that thinks a truck should slow down when you lift your foot off the accelerator.

Well, i REALLY want a TRD sport/or Doublecab short box auto, which doesn't exist. Wanna buy a stick shortbox, i'll buy an auto longbox, and we could drivetrain swap? :D

There is NO long bed 6speed Double Cab Tacoma. The 6speed is only available in the short bed Double Cab.

    Appreciate the responses.

Just curious now as to why you say they are fantastic?

I may just be persuaded to go buy an 'Auto' now... But need more convincing :)

I use the bed all the time, and I wanted the longbox, but had to have the 6spd.

4 yrs later, NO regrets (also was $2000 cheaper). I manage to get everything in my shortbed, sometimes add an extender.

Best to try both, and see what you really want/need. Nothing worse than buyers regret.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
go test drive one. better mileage than the 6spd due to gearing AND quicker off the line, from what i hear
