Saw that but thought you had another truck. Looks like a third Gen.

I can't wait until a manufacturer builds a bulletproof truck so people can complain their tires and brake pads aren't reliable.

186k and nothing I don't consider either self inflicted or expected, at that many miles/years.

Our fam has also had a Tahoe and S10/s15 all with over 300k miles and nothing short of routine maintenance. Like others have said, it's a little bit of luck on the initial build and a lot of how it's treated and maintained. Our government vehicles are flaming piles of dung by the time they reach 100k because they're abused and not cared for.

I have a 93 D21 similar to this one but mine is a V6 with a timing belt. The only problem I currently have is that one of the manifolds studs threads sheared off so i have to rethread it soon.

I have a 2010 trd sport magnetic grey , it’s in real good shape with only 69,970 miles, but it’s never been garaged and sits in the sun all day , no issues with the roof but the top of the grille has definitely started fading and turning cloudy white. Also,.. just above the front passenger side fender flare ( the side that gets the most of the days sun ) is starting to orange peel . Still deciding what I’m gonna do with the grille, either look for a new one or have it painted.

That was a great drivetrain! I had a 1980 Ford Club Wagon (full size van) with that 300cid 6 and a manual, yes 4 speed transmission on the floor. I could change the oil filter from inside the van by taking what was called the doghouse off to access the engine.

I really like my 2.7L Tacoma manual transmission drivetrain. Like the Ford, not a lot of power but fine with me, especially with the manual transmission. The truck doesn't feel delicate, seems like it'll go the distance.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It all comes down to the life any vehicle lives they all can be run into the ground.

All manufactures on new platforms seem to have growing pains and issues.

Are you talking new or used ??

I have had new Ford and Chevy work trucks they all had issues.

We all have or favorites I have had Toyota`s that were Garage Queens.

I think it comes down to how you define reliable? Keeps going with only quicky mart oil changes or receives more then normal attention.

In terms of engines probably not QUITE as good as a yota but the 4.0 Jeeps were pretty damn stout. 7.3 Fords are known to go 300-400k+ miles. See 300k mile Cummins all the time too

Seems the newer trucks like 2nd gen tacoma are all better than before but agreed the market shows you where the tacoma compares.

I had a 1999 Ford Ranger, 4 cylinder with manual trans.
Replaced it in 2018 with 268K miles.
The motor, clutch and trans were all untouched, except for a timing belt and 3 or 4 thermostats.
I was a stickler for regular maintenance.
The whole front end (ball joints, bearings, wrack and pinion) did need to rebuilt around 200K.
It was beat up and rusty but still running when I sold it .

I love hearing about and seeing these old manual transmission trucks. I hope my manual transmission 2007 Tacoma becomes an old one.

That generation of Ford Rangers had a good reputation. I don't think you can get an extended cab with the new Ranger. I wonder if the new turbo engine would make it to 268k miles without major engine work. That's especially amazing your clutch had not been replaced.

I still see a lot of F150s and Silverados out on the road. Definitely more old Tacomas, but I live in CO where the only thing there is more of than Tacomas is Subarus.

I was a truck driver and know how to use a clutch without beating it up.
And the current Ranger does offer an extended cab

My 88 f-150 in-line 300 6 was hands down the toughest most reliable truck I have ever had. I love my Tacoma but that old truck will always have a place in my heart. Was in terrible shape when I got it tons of rust not maintained. Paid a few hundred bucks for it. Had it for years and never once let me down or left me stranded. Wasn’t in good enough shape to justify putting money into that I didn’t have at the time and didn’t room to keep it but still ran great when I had to let it go. Excellent truck.

A friend gave me a 97 K1500 Z71 with 289,000 miles on it. I drove that thing until it had 305,000 miles on it before I accidentally somehow destroyed the transmission while reversing in 4x4...either way, if I didn't do that, that engine would have gone foreverrrrr. Truck was super clean, sold it to a guy that wanted to keep it as is for 1500 (pre crazy market values).
