Does anyone have experience or knowledge of winch cradles? Are any of them better than others or is there anything specific I should look for? I thought about even making my own.

I guess I’ll build my own if there is nothing special about them.

I’ve seen the Warn winch cradle, works great for both rear and front winching but you need a front hitch for it

Im planning on getting a mobtown front recovery bar with hitch receiver to keep the weight down cuz I wouldn't need it that often. I see a few places make the cradles but they don't look like anything special that I couldn't make.

Looks very good. What size steel did you use?

I used 1/4" for the base, 3/16" for the front face, 1/8" for the handles. I have some 1/4" angle gussets on the bottom as well on the stinger.

That sounds pretty sturdy to me. Did you use any dimensions or anything? How did you cut that oval in the face plate?

I bought my winch first and built the cradle to fit. Most winches use a standard bolt down pattern. I used a hole saw and a grinder with a cut off wheel for the face plate.
