Does anyone know if you can add a pull handle to Drivers side Pillar?. My 2015 Tacoma had it.I have CP and was injured in Service and I have to use the steering wheel to pull myself up.The Passenger side has it.DSC_0091.jpg DSC_0091.jpg

It's on my list to research as well, think that's my biggest gripe about the interior.

The current Tundra omits the driver side handle too but you can buy another trim piece and install a handle if you want. I'm hoping the Tacoma has the same option at some point.

funny, I was just researching this today. Only found out about tundra soln and 2nd gen. My guess is it won't be so easy unless someone comes up with an actual aftermarket soln.

There is an airbag there so I doubt it.

I would be really surprised if the airbag setup was different for the passenger, I feel like the safety rating would take a hit with that. I'll have to look tomorrow.

I wonder if the airbag is routed differently on the passenger side to accommodate it then?

A-pillar airbags may be different due to steering wheel airbag being smaller and closer to the driver.

Toyota needs to bring the driver side handle back ASAP! I use it every time I get in/out of my 2014 Tacoma. I feel sorry for those 2016 owners. It makes it so much harder to get in/out of the vehicle.

correct me, but doesn't the A pillar require mounting points for the handle? you just cant replace the A pillar plastic cover.

The first gens had this problem back in 2001. With the 2001-2004 update, the first year didn't have a grab handle. But 2002-2004 did as well as previous years. You'll most likely have to wait for the 2017 that might have it and switch it out.

You are correct. That is the way it has been for both 1st gen and 2 gen Tacomas. If there aren't any mounting holes behind the A Pillar plastic as it is, then installing a handle would just mean you are relying on some plastic clips that hold the A pillar plastic on to bear any weight you put on the handle. Not really a solid option to be honest. On my 2013 I can pop the plastic off very easily....it wouldn't be able to bear weight by itself.

Edit: I meant to add I notice the "SRS" clip in piece at the top, and usually those have bolts behind them. I'm sure anyone who has pulled the 16 A pillar off would know. But might be somewhat solidly mounted.

I just grab the steering wheel but it would have been nice to have that handle in the driver's side

Pop off the cover. If there are welded tabs with welded or captive nuts on the backside, a bar can be installed 'somehow'. If not, then no.

Has anyone tried a cover from a '15 back to see if it 'might' work? That would be one option if it did.

Another would be to use a paracord grab (someone here was making them as replacements for the OE handle), make holes in the trim, and mount it to the mounts. Wouldn't be as pretty, but for those in absolute need of the function, better than nothing.

As far as the airbag. My el-cheapo '13 has that. And a grab handle. And I pulled it off to route my SCII cable up and over to the mount by the rearview. Not a big deal, just use some finesse.

I wish the 16 tacomas had this also. I came from a 14 double cab. I feel like they purposely left alot of little things out from the previous gen, little things you dont notice til about couple days of purchase. Im sure they will introudcue them back in the later production models.

    - driver side grab handle
    - third bed rail
    - clips for passenger floor mat
    - buttons for rear floor mat
    - cubby on either side of steering wheel
    - dedicated clock

Im sure there are more. I love my truck and dont regret it, but for f*** sakes toyota!
