Does anyone know where I can find the truck's 3G/LTE module?

Wow thats kind of nuts to see how many computers are in the newer trucks. Does anyone know what the "certification ECU" does, or certifies as it may be?

That would be a mess. I'm used to the external cellular antenna in GM K2 trucks. The shark-fin in these trucks contain a multiple-antenna array, one of them is used for the navigation/compass.

Vehicles nowadays are actually supercomputers on wheels. The majority of wires used in a typical vehicle nowadays used to carry digital data instead of the plain 12V current from the battery. My '8 Z06 has somewhere around 13 control modules (eg. each door has a control module) and it's only a 2-door coupe. The GM K2 trucks I have owned had an even larger number of control modules. The whole system is sophisticated enough that in GM speak, the "stereo" or "entertainment system" is called HMI, it's a short for Human Machine Interface.

let me see... ALPR, toll booths/fast pass, credit card transactions, vehicle event recorder, cellphone (even apps covertly track you) etc is recording stuff. and dont get briton's started with all the city camera's tracking everything along with china and what now now a days.

yes i know people want to control some small part but in the grand scheme of things, its not the only avenue to track a person. a good hypothetical situation is "god's eye" from the fast furious franchise.

i've given into the fact is that if someone wants to track you they can find multiple avenue's to do just that :)

It does the stuff on checking your key.
For smart key users it verifies the key is inside the vehicle (theoretically). It also does smart key door handles and stuff like that.
For H key, it will make sure the key transponder is recognized.
(I assume it also does unlock and lock buttons on the key....)

Pulled the fuse in my 2020 today. No CELs or adverse effects noted yet, but I do have an aftermarket stereo installed.

It be better if it was easy to acquire the mating connector, but I think it's not a Toyota or Denso. It looks like same type used for the Certification ECU and the Main Body ECU...TYCO...

No..that you will need to add some wires as jumpers...

Been waiting for a thread like this for a long time, following! Has anyone physically looked at the DCM Telemantics Transceiver or the network gateway ECU to see if it can simply be unplugged?

Color me embarrassed, I did not check the function of my stereo, I just presumed that since it was aftermarket and the screen was on, everything was working. I don't think I turned on any audio sources.

I will look into the function of the speakers later today. Seems pretty trivial to jumper or splice the speaker connector if that is needed.

Not sure yet. I never checked for audio output from my stereo yesterday, I was too busy checking everything else.

@caribe makaira shared a couple diagrams that suggest that the speakers on the right hand side may not function correctly if the fuse is pulled or the wires are disconnected.

    EDIT---

Didn't get out until this evening, but did crank up some tunes on the drive.

No issues at all, my speakers all work fine. Think the wire connections and jumpers have to do with making things work correctly after removing the module entirely.

Pulling the fuse seems to have had the desired effect so far.

OP, this is what connector R49 on Head Unit should look like with the DCM wires to it. Notice it is missing the red wire from mic MACC to Head Unit MACC.

If pulling the fuse gives the desired effect then it should be pretty easy to wire a toggle switch to disable the DCM for those who like to go stealth mode.

Pulling the fuse does throw a DTC in techstream, but nothing that appears to be serious so far. The truck is still operating fine with the fuse pulled.

I just pulled the DCM fuse on my 2020 Taco. The radio and all other peripherals still work as designed.

Really? Do you have your cellphone linked to the Head Unit? Did you do a call test to verify if the other person hears you?

@caribe makaira - I just placed a call to my wife using the hands free cabin microphone. Your suspicion was correct - it doesn't work. Thank you for asking the question. This test tells me that the cabin microphone is integrated, or has access to the DCM. You may also presume that the Toyota/NSA/others are listening to our conversations and transmitting those data every minute we're driving, regardless of our consent. I'm keeping my fuse out. I'm okay with not having that function. For others, I can see that it might be a critical component for work or other purposes.
