I just bought a 08 double cab two weeks ago. It has 3 leaf springs in the back. The numbers on the springs are: 48220-04190-F (LH), and 48210-04550-F (RH). The numbers are the same as in the TSB but each number has a "F" at the end. Are these the same or different? I just hauled my 1st load today. I put 800 lbs of block in and it is setting about 1.5 inches from the stops, but I cant tell if it is bottoming out. It seemes to ride fairly good. IF the springs are the same as being replaced in the TSB do you think I should have it done? Does the "F" at the end of the spring # mean anything?

How many springs do you have?

2 plus overload spring for a total of 3?
3 plus overload spring for a total of 4?

If your truck had the TSB done it would have 4 leaf springs in the back instead of 3...

It only has a total of 3 so I know the TSB has not been done, but what IM wondering does the letter "F" at the end of my spring number make any difference?

My 07 Tacoma DC 6sp Canadian version has 4 leafs. I guess thats one of the "subtle" differences I was told about by my dealer, when I inquired about US trucks. I was told there are many!!

    Difference in what?

If you only have 3 leafs...then get your butt to the dealer and get 4 springs instead!

I think what he's asking is if they corrected their problem and started using 3 heavy duty leafs instead of 4 leafs. but to my knowledge they have not, so if you dont have 4 leafs, go get the TSB :)

ndcouch, you are totally right. There has not been any updated rear spring leafs for the '08. Instead they are replacing with NEW same part numbers if you complain about it, as happened with mine. We should wait until that TSB is updated to include 08's and probably within a range of VIN's.

If your dealer does not want to go in and do it in an easy deal, there will be no other option but to wait for the TSB update.

For reference, this is a non-TSB leaf pack:

Stands for Technical Service Bulletin and they are free to do from Toyota Service Dealers if you complain about a problem covered by the TSB. And in this suspension issue an updated or upgraded suspension includes a 4 leaf rear spring that make the truck more heavy load capable and avoid the bottoming out when small or little amount of load is on the bed.
