Yes, that's the correct part for a long bed tacoma. This is the video I used for the install. I believe it's the same for 2023's as nothing has changed.

Yeah I am confident it is the right part for my truck, the dealers just wont confirm that so I wanted to make sure nothing has changed. Thank you for the video though, I'm pretty sure I will end up ordering it and will use that for install.

    How quiet is it?

It's pretty quiet. You'll still hear it lock and unlock. I've heard the ones from R4T's have an updated lock actuator, so they're close to oem noise. I believe they also supply the same plastic clips for the tail gate, so you wouldn't have to drill a hole for the wire loom.

I chose oem, because well it's oem. :notsure: Works fine, I've been happy with it.

I just installed the OEM tailgate lock on my '22 short bed OR. I ran into the same issue with every dealer saying the lock only worked with the Sport and the Pro. The lock I bought worked fine, so I'm pretty sure what you've found will work for your '23 long bed.

Thanks for the input, sounds like I will be ordering it since it should work. They were very vague to cover themselves from a liability standpoint but I think it should be fine

How much is this part? Can’t believe the tailgate doesn’t auto lock/unlock on this new truck!

You should be able to find it for $150 - $170. There are aftermarket options that are about half the price. It’s a pretty easy install if you do it yourself.

    Slow playing these questions…

why does it say long bed only? Is there a difference in the tailgate? I have the short bed.

There is no difference in the tailgate but there is a difference in the length of wiring from the passenger side wiring harness to the tailgate. The one I got is of course longer for the LB so if you have a SB it would work but there will be extra wiring to deal with and the SB wouldn't work with a LB

And to update all, the part I ordered worked perfectly! Although nobody guaranteed it, it worked for the 2023 and has been great ever since I got it. Install was easy, minus cutting the metal zip ties in certain places but oh well worked great otherwise.

That video is great! It took me one trip to Lowe’s Brothers to confirm I need this. So strange it’s not part of the truck from the factory. The video is super helpful.

I’m kind of a cheapskate so I passed on the $170 OEM kit and the $75 “DICMIC” brand kit (https://a.co/d/a2EbA5B) and went straight for the “MagiDeal” kit (https://a.co/d/dsJZZOw) for $46 less a 5% coupon on Amazon. says it will be here between 18 August and 8 September, so it’s got to be good since good things come to those who wait. When it gets here I’ll let you all know how it goes!

I also thought about getting the Pop & Lock kit (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08T59YR22) since it’s advertised as a U.S.-based small business. But the wiring looked different and it sounds like they have you route it to the driver’s side. Has anyone tried that?

I believe the only plug receptacle is on the passenger side. I still think the OEM is worth the $170, but it can be found cheaper.

Ooh, my $46 Amazon kit showed up early! I think everything is included. I’ll post again after I install it.

True, but if you open your bed or use it at all having the button lock is a lot nicer.

Great video, super helpful. I initially found a different video suggesting install on driver's side however lock wasn't functional so had to move to passenger side which finally worked! Highly recommend the OEM version, plug and play. I have LB and the SB wiring worked just fine.

The OEM part number above, do you think it works for earlier year Tacomas? I have a 2017 TRD Sport that i would want to install it on.

I'm at work so havent been able to watch the youtube video to see if they address this question.

    Thanks!

Newbie to "This World" . Just pick up a 2023 SR5.Tried to order OEM short bed from BAM. Same thing thing " not compatible to the VIN#".
Really wanna get it and install myself but kind of uncomfortable as I'll go nuts if it dosen't work out.

I installed mine 3 weeks ago, has been working just fine. Easy install. Took about 3hrs to get everything right. Just make sure you get the right size. If you have short bed get the part number: PK3B6-35JS0
