I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma. I am using Entune and voice calls are working great but messages have never worked for me. I have an iphone 8 Plus and I have removed favorites etc from the phone but still no display of messages when car is parked or driving. Is this a safety feature or software issue?

Here’s my thread on the exact same thing. If you figure it out let me know. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn’t work at all.
I did have an Entune update on the screen which I installed but I haven’t been able to try it since.
    Frustrating.

Did you turn that option in in your phone settings? I know in my iPhone i had to set it up under the Bluetooth settings for that connection. Not sure on androids, probably the same though. I ripped my stereo out as I got.tired of the resetting of the stereo.

I had that issue back in the day and what it ended up causing the issue was having my quick contacts on the home screen of my entune. As soon as you remove contacts from being on your home screen this message readout worked again.

No problem with my 2018 Tacoma and iPhone 8. Text messages pop right up and will be read aloud.

OK, here's my experience. Text messages showing up in Entune has never been reliable. They worked for about a week after I got my truck and then stopped working. No changes of course to settings or OS on the phone. Finally after about 6 months and watching a couple of YouTube videos and dipping around with every setting known, texting worked great for a year and a half. No problems at all.

Then I upgraded to the iPhone 11. I paired the phone and texting did not work. I disconnected the phone and then reconnected (not unpairing and re-pairing) and texting worked great for a week.
Then it stopped. Not sure why. I tried doing everything including deleting all personal data from the Entune system, rebooting phone, deleting the Bluetooth connection, making sure the enable notifications was checked. It just wouldn't work. I didn't update anything from the day it last worked to the next day when it didn't work.

Then, just today I installed the new map software 0e071 from 0e185. Magically, the text messages started working again. Not gonna hold my breath that this will last because I'm sure the wind will blow from the south instead of the north and just as magically, the texting will stop working.

Anyway, not sure that the new nav software had anything to do with it working again. The new cards are pretty cheap on eBay so it might be a solution for any of you that are frustrated enough to do this instead of taking a baseball bat to the head unit.

My number 1 complaint with my truck is the garbage Entune system. Navigation is unreliable at best, blue-tooth is hit or miss and I constantly find myself having to reconnect my devices. Any vehicle after 2016-2017 that doesn't have apple car play and android auto in anything above a base model is a joke to me.

It's really my only gripe with the truck.

Mine displayed on all connected phones(S8, Pixel3, and 6s) until a week or 2 ago.

Kinda gave up caring... use phone for Waze when I use nav..
I may cave one day and swap out the head unit....but...

There are some strange issues with the reception of the pixel 4 showing "no signal" even when the phone shows one. I contacted Google about it. They did offer some help but ultimately said that I should contact Toyota about it.

Here is a list of all the Bluetooth profiles. You can look up those referenced in the attached picture.
