Ok so as some of you know I found a dog no one has claimed him so I am going to end up keeping him.

I got him some new food its called professional, it has good food in it unlike the other food.

I'm having a problem with him, he gets separation anxiety, which I am working on.

The new problem is, he will whine for no reason (that I can tell), he'll just walk around and whine and I'm like whats wrong buddy and he looks at me goes and lies down then whines at random times...

So I thought he had to go out at first when this started nope.

    Anyway thoughts or comments?

I also give him 2 cups of food morning, lunch, dinner, he does not eat it all so I'm guessing he might not like the food?

So I go to give him some of the old food because he did not seem to have a problem with it, nope he doesn't want any old food so Im assuming it's just filling him up.

We are taking him to the vet soon and I will tell her the same thing I'm telling you guys.

Its a trip to train him lol he is so hard headed one minute he will listen to every command the next he will look at me like Im retarded.:D

Im also trying to crate train him, I am putting toys in his crate and his treats he is still kind of weary of it but I had to leave so I put him in there and he did not whine.

I came home and he was not whining....

    Thanks!

Edit he also loves to roll around in the snow so not sure if he just likes it or if he itches but he is getting a bath today which Im kind of sad because he does not like the bathtub but, he needs a bath.

How old is he? What kind of dog?

Our dogs don't like to eat bone dry food. We put some warm water in the food. Put it in their bowl, and run warm water over it, not much though... like half a cup, if that. Easier for them to eat... Granted, we have Labs, and they're pigs and would choke to death if it were bone dry.

    Good luck!

Haha, my lab is the same way! He'd plow through the whole 50lb bag if I left it open in front of him. Some dogs will only eat to their fill. He might not be used to feeding 3 times a day, most bigger dogs don't need to eat that often. Wean him to 2 meals a day if you can, it'll make your life easier when you leave to work during the day also. Dogs don't have the taste buds like we do, if it smells good, to them it's delicious! Some foods you can pop in the microwave for a couple seconds (like 15 seconds) and it makes them smell a lot more to make them interested. Or you can mix in boiled chicken or white rice if he's not eating. How much of the 6 cups you're feeding him does he actually eat? There could be a blockage making it uncomfortable to eat. Unfortunately since you don't know the history of the dog, you don't know if he's acting lazier than normal. The constant whining may be caused by something internally. If he's not eating at all and is really lazy, there could be a problem.

As far as crate training, they get used to the crate eventually. Whenever there's a lot of commotion in the house, my dog just goes and hangs out in his crate (we leave the crate door open all the time, it's his 'safe place'). Dogs are den animals so they take to crates well. Mine didn't like the crate when it was more in the open, only when it's stuck in a corner with solid walls on 2 sides. You can put their food bowls in the crate also at feeding time. This helps them associate the crate with a good thing. Before we leave every morning, we fill one of those Kong toys with some of his normal dry food and the top 1/3 is peanut butter. We freeze it overnight and we give it to him when we leave for work in the morning. It's a big treat for him and that's the only time he gets it and now he can't wait to get in his crate in the morning.

Good luck with the new dog, I hope this helps!

We feed all of our dogs twice a day. They each get a littttle over a cup per feeding, and they're still fat. They don't need as much food as you think.

I agree with feeding him twice a day, like Pugga said.

2 cups twice a day. I have a 110lb Newfoundland/Lab mix who won't touch her food until she is hungry. I wouldn't mess with adding anything to the food like water or other treats. A dog will eat when it is hungry. A 1yr old can still learn a lot so just keep training. Make sure you do it regularly.

I feed my puppy 3 times a day which equates to 1.25 cups. He only wines when he is in his kennel and needs to potty. He gets bad anxiety when we leave and shits everywhere in his kennel and eats it... :(

My sister took in a dog that was dumped out of the back of a pickup, the bills piled up from all of the medical problems that arose and that caused her to let the dog go. Just make sure you have the time to take good care of the dog, and give him/her plenty of attention.
