Sort of the same scenario with my dog Dexter. He's twelve going on three but he went through the same thing. I came home and he wouldn't put pressure on one of his hind legs. We took him in and had him examined. The vet had said he tore his doggy ACL and surgery was an option. The other option was to confine him for 4 to 6 weeks and let it heal on it's own. We went with option B considering his size(He is only 50 lbs.) and his age(12 years old-Dangers of being knocked out for surgery). He is doing fine although I don't run him like I used to and every once in a while he has a slight limp after a long day of being outside and playing with our other dog.

I wish you well with your dog Lily. I know how hard it can be.

    ***Update on Lily from 7/20/09***

I spoke with Lily's surgeon early this afternoon and the news is not good. Apparently while recovering from last week's surgery, the staff at OSU somehow allowed her to put a more than an acceptable amount of weight on her repaired leg and the bone has broken away from the metal implant. So now Lily must endure yet another surgery tomorrow, 7/21/09.

My wife and I very upset at this news and understand that Lily's chance of recovery are greatly diminished now. The likelihood of infection and/or pneumonia are much greater now and it would seem that Lily will be fighting an uphill battle from this point forward.

We plan on bringing Lily home this Friday whether she is ready or not because we honestly feel that we will provide better care for her at home than she has been receiving at the hospital. If everything works in her favor she can still make a full recovery, but the odds of that happening now are much slimmer than just a week ago.

Right now I am trying to balance my emotions of overwhelming sorrow and unregulated rage. To this point I have essentially paid several thousand dollars for these ass clowns to put our beloved Lily's survival in serious doubt.

Thank you again to everyone for their kind words and continued thoughts for Lily. I will update later in the week as her condition becomes more clear.

    My sweet girl.

I am so sorry to hear about Lily's troubles.   for her successful surgery tomorrow and for a full recovery.

I also feel that I can do a better job watching my babies than the people at the vets.... She's my family and not just a patient.

I grew up with two bull mastiffs and they are awesome. You love em all you can while you have them. It sucks when they go, but then time with them is well worth it. The same applies to humans. Sorry you are going through this and stay strong.

There isn’t a single person in my family under the age of 22 so our dog is loved and spoiled to the bone. When we say he’s a full member of the family we mean it so I understand your heart ache. My fingers are crossed for Lily…… Hope things turn around soon.
