    It was really easy huh?:D
Hey, there's a mod that turns on your front bumper signals with the parking lights, but it only uses the second filament when it blinks. Here:

Just to clarify, you ARE switching the wires in the connector and completing everything else the same way with the exception of the diode? Do the map lights come on when you only turn the dome light on?

So I have done everything almost done. When you run the wire back to the map light connector did you jam the wire in their or did you add a little crimp connector to it? I have read on TN that people just jammed it in their and it worked. Just want to make sure before I do this!

Figured the mod out and it works great. However, I lost one of those damn retainer clips that hold the overhead console in place. Does anyone have the part # so I can buy one? Thanks!

So I thought the diode was so you can use just a map light if need be. Does your setup allow for use of the map light with out turning on the dome too? If so I guess I'll have to go back and read what you have done again cuz I don't get it as of this moment.

Good on you though for figuring this thing out :)

I know this is a super old thread, but I just tried this and am hoping that someone could help me out, because I am stumped. :(

First. My truck is a 2007 Sport 4x4 Access Cab.

    I used this method:
I fallowed the directions above. swapped the wires in the plug at the map lights, ran a single wire to the dome light and tapped the middle (blue) wire.

Here's my problem. When I open the doors the Dome and the Maps light up just like this mod should. However my Map lights DO NOT work independently. When the doors are shut and a click the map light nothing happens. While the doors are open, if I click the map light it shuts off that map light. Dome stays on as well as the opposite map light.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong? My wiring looks the same as the pictures above.

    Any thoughts? I appreciate it.

hmm. I looked those two threads and there still seems to be confusion with the people posting.

I guess I will try a diode tonight to see if that solves the problem, because the only other thing I can think of is that the wiring is slightly different across the 2nd gen. tacos.

Possibly since the wires in the above pics are white and the other threads show yellow :notsure:

Well I figured it out. I am not sure how the "single wire" version of this works, but I will confirm that it does not entirely work on my 07' Sport AC.

Fallowing the directions swapping the wires at the map light plug, then using a single wire without a diode, yields the dome and map lights working in sync when the truck is unlocked via remote or the doors are opened. However, using the single wire method without a diode meant for me the map lights DID NOT work independently.

I grabbed a 3 amp diode from RadioShack and soldered it in line, so that the band was on the dome light side. of the wire.

    Like so:

The wire going down is to the dome light and you can see the silver band of the diode on that side.

Not sure why the wiring is a little bit different, but the diode method seems to work just like advertised. Both the dome and maps come on when the doors are unlocked via remote or the doors are open and the map lights work independently when the doors are shut or the doors are locked.

Hope this helps anyone looking to do this mod. Good luck.

Glad you figured it out... my concern is that you left the diode uncovered as shown in your picture  The metal ends of the diode carry current and/or ground and they need to be covered in shrink tube (or at least electrical tape) otherwise bad things will happen. Hope this helps ;)

Way ahead of you, I took that picture just for reference to the diode orientation. I slipped heat shrink over the diode and all exposed wires before connecting everything in the truck. :)
