Testing of DSIM's Dome Light Harness for Rock Lights
...or in my case, for Floor Lights


Alright guys. After installation of DSIM's product I just have to say that this is a nice upgrade. I also appreciate that DSIM supplied the wiring diagram right off the bat. A little bit of background for my situation. I installed these floor lights into my truck a few weeks back using MesoJDM's switch pods to install my switch. I had wired a non ch4x4 switch (bought it off Amazon for $11) and wired it into some floor lights I bought on amazon for about $20. I wired the switch into a 12 volt accessory source on the truck so that I would be able to turn on the floor lights while the truck was on but not accidently leave it on when the truck was off.

Now to the install. First I pulled out my switch panel, pulled back the door rubber, unbolted the A pillar, and pulled off the plastic covering the airbag.





Behind the A-pillar there is the harness for the dome light and tap into the yellow wire using the red tap. The black wire of DSIM's harness connects to this.


Using DSIM's wiring diagram I then had to change my 12 volt source since I had previously had mine connected to an accessory wire. I had another switch I was running straight to the battery with my ditch lights and that wire had a fuse for protection. I wired my green switch wire now into the 12 volt constant along with the red wire coming from DSIM's harness. For you other guys, you are going to obviously have to find your own 12 volt constant. I then had to wire in the yellow wire from DSIMs harness into the second red wire next to the green wire on the switch which connected onto the red wire leading into my floor lights. The ground wire of my floor lights was previously connected to the frame.


After installation, I tested everything out and everything works as should. Whenever the door is approached with my touch sensitive door (or if the door is unlocked with the remote), the dome light turns on and my floor lights come on with the sound of the DSIM's relay clicking. Now, if I want to turn on my floor lights separately while the door is closed I can still push my dash button and the floor lights come on. This is great for driving and seeing the floor. Plus, my cheap floor lights from amazon can blink with music and I also have a remote to change colors of my floor lights if I want to (yeah I know it's cheezy but you got to have a little fun). Now the only issue I see is that if the button is pushed you have to remember that it is now a 12 volt constant and it has to be turned off when leaving the truck. As long as the button isn't pressed though, the floor light will only come on with the dome.

So my general synopsis. Yes this is a worthy upgrade. It reminds me of my old Mercedes which had this setup stock. It is nice to be able to see the floor when I open the door. I may or may not wire in rock lights later on but I am happy with this current setup. Thanks to DSIM for allowing me to test this out.

@Volksparts Thanks so much for the review and for being my tester.

I do want to make clear that the red wire does NEED the 12V+ constant to get the functionality you are looking for with the courtesy lights. But (like in Volksparts case) you are powering your switch off of an ACC source (only 12V with the truck on) then you need to run the red wire to a 12V+ constant source (the battery), but it is not neccessary to rewire your switch to 12V+ Constant. That way if you leave the switch on by accident and you walk away from the truck the lights wont stay on but the courtesy lights still work.

I have updated post #2 to try and show what I mean here.

All you need to know is.

Red Wire - 12V+ CONSTANT (INPUT)
Yellow Wire - 12V+ to Lights (OUTPUT)
Black Wire - To Negative Trigger in A-Pillar Harness (TRIGGER)
