Don't Make these Mistakes when installing IDataLink Maestro - I pissed away 4 hours tonight.

    1) I assumed that the Meastro unit was just for the steering controls and that I could fire up the headunit without programming the unit. Wrong... When you use their unit and their cable, the switched power goes through that unit. I spent an hour thinking I blew a fuse earlier when adding some extra USB ports

2)There is a different way to tie in the data line based on the year. I stumbled across the 2016 diagram first (use the 3.5mm jack plus a blue colored wire) to make the data connection. That seemed to make sense as my wire harness had 'Streering wire control' wire of the same color. In this diagram the steering controls hook up to a blue port. This only works for 2016. Newer trucks use dont use that blue wire and they dont use the blue port. they use a 4 pin wire. Take a look at this document and search Tacoma. There are a few sets of pages early for the 2016... But near the bottom is the docs for the newer trucks.
