Anyone have any ideas how to add padding to the door arm rest on a 2009 Tacoma. It is cloth, so adding one is making me scratch my head in frustration.

Did a Google search and there seems to be lots of people offering padded replacements. A result was a tut vid by Tacomaholic.

Replacement cloth is available to replace the arm rest material, but there is minimal padding on the arm rest and I can’t figure out how to add more. There are small pads available on ebay and Amazon that are memory foam, but short of cloth glue that may not work, I’m at a loss of how to add additional padding to the arm rest.

I actually just did this to mine. I got replacement arm rest leather from redlinegoods.com and followed this guide https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-leather-arm-rests.2755/

But before glueing the arm rest in I cut some carpet padding and glued that in then the leather on top. Came out good enough for my taste and now has a bit of squish for the elbow. I also replaced my center console lid with a 1in padded arm rest from redline as well.

I considered this mod but it wasn’t worth it in my opinion. That being said, I did however plastic weld under the arm rest as my girlfriend at the time was constantly complaining that it felt like her arm was going to cave through when she would use it as support to readjust her seating position or to hop in and out of the truck and no she was not a heavy girl for all you wise ass’ lol, and I’m glad she kept at it, there’s more than a few post on TW of 2nd Gen taco arm rests cracking or caving in due to poor designing.
Point being, if you’re going to all the trouble to do this mod, plastic weld some support under your armrests or at some point all that work you did might be for nothing. Here’s a few photos of what I did to correct Toyota’s lack of quality control, in this regard.A385D03C-DA22-4BFD-A802-A06E14EA19B2.jpg33F60816-5616-47C4-AAAE-680DB4D25B0D.jpg

I had to reinforce my driver side last year. I used a flat piece of aluminum and jb welded it underneath

Im not quite as mechanical as some others and can’t remove my doors. Any ideas how to soften doorrests without removing doors. My door rests are cloth. Thanks

its not so much that it needs padding...its that it sits so low for my elbow. I added a dense foam block with a thin layer of softer foam covered in black fabric.

Thought of a small pad that could be glued to vinyl but most glues would not stick to cloth. Tried velcro but no luck. Hate to use any kind of glue because it would ruin the cloth if the glue didn't hold the pad.

Dense foam block added. How did you install it? Did you still have to remove the door
    panel?

Came here to say this. The problem here is the soft arm, not the "hard" arm rest lol

(j/k if it's not obvious. A little more padding would be nice)

Instead of tackling the overcomplicated door, maybe take this on from a different angle. There is always an easier way.

Dig way back into your closet and dust off the old professor's tweed blazer. The one with the leather patches.

Not only will you relieve your elbow discomfort wherever you go, but the ladies will practically throw themselves at such a sharp look. Win win.

The problem is muscular dystrophy not ‘a soft arm’ and that’s not going away, SO how to I cushion the bloody arm rest?
