First off, I didn't come up with this idea. I got it from another forum member. His thread can be found here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/garage-workshop/224420-2nd-gen-double-cab-folding-dog-platform.html you can find measurements and such there.

I figured I'd put this here because I know not everyone checks the garage forum.

The OP made his one piece that covered the entire back seat. Here's my take on his original idea:

I started with the OP's measurements and the tweaked the design to fit my needs. Basically just a two piece set up.

This way I can use either the big or the small side and have room for my Boy and my pooch.

    He'll grow into it...

Here's my low budget solution to keep the back from falling. Ran out of time today. I'm going to come up with something better before I actually use this...

I'm thinking of cutting out and carpeting a another square of plywood. Maybe 4"x4", with a slot just big enough for the seat bracket. Then, just clipping a spring hook through the protruding seat bracket.

Make sense? I think it'll work well. Honestly though, just dropping a big screw driver, or something similar, down through would work too I guess.

EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, finding the right, safe, thing to just drop through the seat catch is probably the best route.

OK, so, I was WAY overthinking how to keep the backs from falling...

I used some scrap 3/4" plywood for the T's. That, and the carpet on both sides, made them just the right width to slide in easily while still being thick enough to keep the back panels from rattling.

I just used a padlock to keep my back from falling forward. The added security is nice.

I cut he holes too big. I would've had to use (buy) two BIG padlocks... Otherwise, I would've gone that route as we'll. I'm glad I did it the way that I did now though. The T's are thick enough to push the back up against the truck. I can't stand rattling... :D

Ha! My Fiancé picked it up at Petco. I told her he's going to be too big for it in a couple of weeks! It is cold here though. Poor little guy shivers when we take him out to pee.

Unfortunately, no. The OP to the link I posted in the first thread wrote that he extended his seat brackets so he could leave the back in place though. Then he put carpet on the back of his seats.

Hey, I like that idea! I recently bought a new DC and was thinking about what to put down for out two Springer Spaniels. Just because we had to get the DC for the dogs, doesn't mean I have to put up with the dog hair.

Finally got around to making one of these platforms. It turned out great. I didn't want the seat brackets coming through the back since my dog is huge and he likes to lean. To keep the back from folding forward I used a carabiner and some 550 cord and made a small leash that attaches the back board to the seat bracket. But I might change the leash out for a pair of gate latches

    Hey peeps of TW!

sorry to revive this thread but I'm trying to figure out how to make these, but have them "clip" to the stock seat clips that normally hold the stock seats to the truck. I remember reading someone using some sort of latch to hook their seat up, any one know what i'm talking about?
