Stopped taking pics after a while because phone was low on juice. But alt. Is off, power steering is disconnected enough to move to the side, starter is out, lots of shit disconnected. Exhaust has been sprayed so hopefully nothing breaks. :D
Word to anyone that's gonna rebuild a 2nd gen 4runner, the main harness disconnect is BEHIND the computer, which is mounted against the passenger side fender. I also learned that the 91 has been swamped. 2-3 inches of mud line up the interior when you pull carpet and trim back.

Regretting not doing that now, but there was no place for it other than straight into the garage because the other one was coming in right behind it. :D

Oh, the exhaust came undone so easy! I was amazed. Must have been apart some time recently, because I didn't even use a cheater pipe. Oh, speaking of exhaust, check out my sweet exhaust system.

So a 4runner towing a 4runner. Made me laugh. Got it on the trailer and stuck behind the fence so it is completely out of the way.

It appears that this valve cover has been off before because if you look closely, you will see that there are two different colors of RTV, blue and black. 20160821_165124.jpg
Now the 94 is in the garage, awaiting engine removal.

And here's the current on the 94. PS @ChadsPride, I love you.
The 94 is still covered in shit, but not as bad as the 91 was. Found a wasp nest under it and sprayed that bitch with brake parts cleaner.

Kinda figured this one's PCV was never changed either. Yup. But at least the oil from this engine is brown instead of black.20160824_174853.jpg

Where it stands now. Got the exhaust loose, and punched myself in the face doing it.

Still going to make one good runner out of these or going to try to make both run?

Or does that depend on how the bearings and shit look when you tear the motors down?

Frankensteining the engines and parts to go in the 94. Lift, rims, and bumpers are coming off the 91 to go on the 94, but gotta find corner lights, grille, and headlights from an earlier second gen like the 91 because I like that look better and the stuff on my 91 will break taking it off. (you know how those plastic pops are)
91 is getting a 350 small block and the axles from Robert's Rut Slut (83 yota pickup with broken frame) and will eventually be caged and twin sticked. It will be our combined project.

    Well...
Got the 94's engine out yesterday, spent part of today beginning the teardown.
    20160902_153648.jpg

Found the one on the 94 that had been helicoiled. 20160902_201626.jpg

And then while doing the spark plugs and draining the block on the 91, found this in the cylinder 6 spark plug hole...
    20160902_200554.jpg
    20160902_201122.jpg

So we shall see exactly what happened here in the coming days, I suppose. The 3.0 is a non-interference engine. Means that timing did not skip and cause this. So looks like either trash/deposits got in the way, or it may have a spun bearing. I guess it is a good thing I have two engines to pick between for parts.

I have to take more pictures, but here is what's gone on yesterday and today:
The 91 engine is pretty bad off. One head is toast. Broke a valve (at you guessed it, cylinder 6) and it got all chewed up. Piston is done, but initial inspection of the cylinder walls and crank are fair. May be able to salvage the block and one head. Bearings are bad. Gouged all to hell. The remants of the oil in the pan were so solid that I was picking up great goopy globs. All silvery with crushed metal.
The 94 started getting torn down today. Initial inspection after pulling the intake is that it has a blown head that spit outside, because there is a ton of oil in the V of the block, but no noticeable hole in the block. I do not have any pics of the 94 yet, and need to get pics of the bearings as well. Probably take them later today or tomorrow. So here is a picture dump of the 91.
