I am seriously considering a TRD SC for my 2011 TRD OR and was wondering if noise was a problem? I have driven older street rods with SCs and most produced a noticable whine at idle which got louder on accleration. Does the TRD SC make alot of noise? My second concern is engine and trans life. A few people have told me not to expect long engine or trans life when using a SC. This is important to me because I generally run my Tacomas 200k or better before I resell them. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there any recommended breakin time on a new engine & trans before installing the SC, I have only 3000 mile on the new truck. thanks!

Can the SC be run on 87 or 89 octane without damage? 93 or better is hard to come by out in the sticks.

How long of engine life would you expect to see with a supercharger

if you dont dog it from every stop, then it will last a while. only premium gas or better. and if you have the automatic dont worry too much, if you have the standard then good luck. im n/a and my transmission is garbage.

I beat my first gen, SC'd truck like it owed me money, for 100K+ miles, and never an issue. Last I saw it, it was pushing 160K miles, and still no issues. As long as your not running gobs of boost, you shouldnt have any longevity issues.

Most don't have a problem, even if you mod it up with pulleys, tuning, exhaust, etc but thats just on the engine. Only bad things that I have seen with the TRD unit is that when the intercooler pumps fails or has a bad connection. And yes maintenance should always be a top priority both n/a and boosted but you'll just have to change out the oil in the supercharger (every 100k I believe) and watch you belt. Other than that don't tell me you wouldn't like the roots whine.

I once stupidly put mid-grade fuel in my supercharged 1st gen...:(

That thing knocked like a persistent Jehova's Witness.... :(
