Drive belt deflection question

i will need to install a timing belt in about 10000 miles but not sure if i want to do it or not because i don't understand how to set the drive belt deflection at all. Can someone try to explain to me how to set it and what it actually is? I don't understand what 1/2" or 1/4" means. Thanks for any help i feel helpless with this!

Yes, i found a video in the first gen forum that someone posted about 1 hour after i posted this. Most helpful video ive ever watched.

 

Haha thats good. Toyota belts have the marks, so you just have to match them all up, which makes it easy. Not sure if other vendors do the same.

 

I know the timing belt is easy i just never have understood belt deflection. Im going to get a cheap tool to help messure it and i think ill be good to go!

 

I'm not sure what you mean by deflection. It has a automatic hydraulic tensioner.

Ah those belts, just tighten them until there's like no deflection. They'll stretch a little if they're new. If they're not tight enough just cinch em down a bit more later.
