I have a drivers side rear lean now after having installed a 3rd gen suspension on my 2nd gen. Are the coils side specific on the 3rd gen. Could they be switched? The lean is 1” lower on drivers rear compared to passengers rear. Also if they are side specific, do they need to be Disassembled from shock to switch or can they just be unbolted and swap the complete assembly to the opposite side

Can anyone with a 2018 trd off road tell me the color coding on their coil springs please

They are specific... search for that on TW and you will get the sequence of dots that correspond with which side. There are several videos about this

I was in the same situation a few months back. From the research I did and from people helping me out on here, this is what I did.

Keep in mind, 3rd gen TRD Offroad front suspension has colored dots that are side specific. The TRD Sport suspension has the same colored dots, so it's hard to determine which side is which.

I installed TRD Sport front suspension.

so my coils must be reversed then..cause I now have a lean in the drivers rear...can I have the shop swap complete front assemblies side to side or do the coils need to be removed from the shock and swapped?

OK so on the Driver side the end of the coil at bottom is facing front of truck, passenger side end of coil is facing rear, could this be my issue, Do I need to have the shock and coil assembly rotated on driver side so the bottom end of coil is facing the rear? as in picture above?

dots on driverside are red / green, and are facing the front of truck, Dots on passenger side are red/ blue and facing rear of truck, I think the drivers side assembly needs to be turned around 180 degrees so the bottom of coil is facing the rear of truck like passenger side... correct me if I am wrong please

here are a couple picture of the front coil assembly taken from the front of truck, is it installed backwards? and if so would this give the 1" lean in the rear that it has?

I’m not sure if turning the coil assembly 180 degrees will fix the lean. And I’m sure it will cost me a couple hours labour at the dealer also even though they installed it incorrectly

I found this on another thread. From that, it appears that you have them correct.

I also installed a 1/4" spacer (1/2" of lift) on the drivers side to make up for the notorious Taco Lean, but 1" lean seems like a lot.

Yes coil is correct but it’s not seated correctly. The bottom end should be facing the rear of truck not front as pictured

Rotation of coil does not matter so long as its actually seated in the bottom of the spring seat properly.

Maybe the spring rate is different for the 3rd gen and this exacerbates the lean? How old are the springs and shocks? If they are fresh they probably haven't settled much yet.

Did you change the rear leaf springs? They might have different spring rates side to side.

The leafs were changed in 2009 for the tsb. So they are 10 years old. Would new one correct this. The rear shocks are new off a 3rd gen off road. Or maybe the springs are different on rear and dealer switched them by mistake? Good question. Hmm

Uhmmm…. Just a reminder, 3 gen is 1inch higher then 2 gen to begin with … for what I know, correct me if I wrong... 2 gen and 3 gen have the same shock fitment, but tune differently (apply to OEM only)… or you might just have a very bad spring/ shock to begin with...

Ya but I thought that would only affect the front. Front is perfect. Just the one side on rear. They are my own 2nd gen springs in rear

OK thanks. I’m going to dealer tomorrow to see what they say about it. I noticed it after frame replacement. Anyone recommend good new leaf springs. I don’t want any lift or very little as I don’t want to replace the shocks as they r new

Taco Lean is caused from extra weight on the drivers front side, the rear follows suit. It doesn’t make sense intuitively but if you level the front the rear will level too.
