I've been in 4x4 quite a bit lately. If conditions are appropriate, you won't hurt anything.

I like how all these people are chiming in says have they have lived in "blank" area for "blank" years and have only been in 4wd two or three times. I lived in Colorado for 4 years and i used 4x4 on a daily basis in the winter....going to work, pulling folks out...,they must have busy plow trucks up north of the border

We are running out of places to put snow! My tree in front yard is about buried. And snowing nonstop today! 4wd makes driving around here convenient!

Depends where everyone lives- flat landers can get along just fine without four and minimal snow. In the mountains I switch in and out of 4 about 20 times every day on a one hours trip to work. I use 2 as much as possible and switch to 4 when I’m rolling up to a ref light on a steep hill. Or if it’s deep snow in soecofic areas. Climbing long hills on the highway is earlier and quicker in 4. It’s a switch I just use it when I need it, but avoid it when possible to save fuel. I have also gone 1700k in a day and a halfnstraight through with 4x on the whole time. These trucks are made for it

They're pretty damn good with the plowing around here in southern Ontario. It's hilarious when we get a big snowfall and the roads aren't instantly plowed. That's when you see all the idiots getting stuck and driving with their 4 ways going.

They probably have a job to go to and can't set around to wait for plows. At least I couldn't.

Oh for sure, I just meant like that's when it's apparent that they don't have winters, AWD or 4X4. Rely on the plow.

Yep. I work at a ski area and live in a mountainous area. I'm in 4x4 nearly daily most winters. Some areas, like in town, get plowed pretty clean. Because of this, I'm in and out of 4x4 between storms quite a bit. They didn't used to put so much effort into keeping the roads cleared - and especially sprayed with mag chloride . I would rather just leave it in 4x4, but most people don't want to invest in good tires or learning how to properly drive in winter conditions.

Those idiots... hate them. But its not when we get a big snowfall. Its when we get a SMALL snowfall. That's when you have all the idiots that drive at 20 in all the lanes because they're scared, and all the other idiots that drive at 20 over because they think they're invincible. That speed differential combined with bad traction makes very bad things happen very fast.

But when its heavy snow, all the "20'ers" leave their cars in the driveway, and all the 20-over'ers crash before they even get to the end of their street, leaving the roads ideal for everyone else who can drive in snow responsibly and safely. I tell you, what is an hour commute in the summer or 2 hours in light snow, becomes 20 minutes in heavy snow.

Welp i live in newfoundland and our plowing is likely one of the worst in the country. When we got ~36" in 2 nights it took about 2 weeks before even sidewalks were clear down town. People were walking on the streets lol. It's a very hilly province and we get nailed with it. Only time i've ever been stuck is in my 2wd open diff ranger when a snow plow pushed a bank in behind me while i was working. Only thing 4wd would even do for me would make me get up a hill quicker from a stop, thats about it really.

Snow hasn't stopped here in Quebec (Gatineau/Ottawa area). The past snow storm blocked in all 3 of our cars and took about 4hrs to shovel out. Snow was over the trunk of the car.

As others have said, it's the people that drive 1/4 of the speed limit that cause more accidents than others. If you have proper tires and drive accordingly, you shouldn't have an issue. Even with the roads having 12+ inches of snow, I never had issues.

I though you newfie's would just park the cars and drive sleds in the winter.

nah we just order pizza delivery to the shed party and the young fella whips around the corner in his clapped 95 tercel to deliver it (i hope you get this lmao)

I am biased though, i learned to drive in that 2wd ranger with all seasons on. Basically driving on hard mode. That truck was sideways more than it was striaght in the winter. My favorite memorys was driving to work in bad conditions, i live at the bottom of a hill, so when it got nasty, i had to drive almost sideway up the entire hill (~400meters). Got some funny looks from opposing traffic :D

The proper way to learn how to drive haha.

Momentum is key without 4x. And good winter tires.

Record snow depths this month here in NW Wyoming where we don’t salt the roads (read: driving on an ice rink from late Nov through April) and I’ll switch into 4HI every now and again to push into/out of parking spots or get up slick hills. Your KO2s are just fine in 2WD.

I wish they would do that here!
But no, they like to make more business for GM, so they can close down their factory in oshawa (the part of detroit on the canadian side of the border).

It’s really just a matter of road safety here. Much easier to drive on ice than to be dodging all the wild moose, elk, deer, goats, sheep and pronghorn coming to the blacktop salt lick.
