Yo folks. Looking for some advise about driving in thick snow. I have been getting quite frustrated with traction control blocking the wheels. Even with traction control OFF some other system is kicking in and I am not able to push thru thick snow. With older vehicles as long as you didn't hang on axis you were able to pound. Often when I get out of the tracks and am unable to get back coz traction control takes over.
I didn't want to use 4LO so I could overcome hills with speed. Hope I am clear with description of the issue....Any hints?

He said he’s hit the traction control button so it’s off.

I'm not sure if this is the same across all trims. But, in order to totally defeat traction control, come to a dead stop and hold down the trac off button for a couple of seconds. Watch the dash. One light will light up as soon as you hit the button. A few seconds later, a few more lights will light up and you are free to give her hell.

I'm on KO2. Honestly not very impressed. Blizzaks back in a day on my Pathfinder did much better.

Heavy snow with my skinnies I'll use 4 lo to keep momentum and keep trans temps down. It really just takes experience and messing around.

That is not true. There is a short push and a long push which have different effects depending on whether the truck is in 2hi, 4hi, or 4lo and whether it is a OR or Pro.

Also, there is no advantage to turning everything off unless you want to screw around with nothing but open diffs (which I do often).

See the link I posted for details.

You need to hold down the VSC button until you get the TRAC OFF light in the gauge cluster.

You're better off in 4lo. Rev higher to maintain speed. The V6 really comes to life at redline. For plowing through two feet of snow, I'm typically at 7200 rpm in 2nd gear in 4lo.

You have to hold the button for 5-10 seconds depending on which level of “off” you want. Just pressing it doesn’t really do jack

That technique is not going to work well on the interstate in rush hour traffic.

^Irrelevant as foot-deep snow is going to cause paralysis on the interstate anyway.

With my previous 2nd gen, I did have to use the rear locker once on the on-ramp to climb over a snowbank. The highway had been plowed, but not the on-ramps.

In my area people drive around in a 1 foot snow storm like there is nothing going on. If I have room, I’m going 50-65 mph. Granted we have excellent plowing, so you are rarely driving through a foot of snow on the interstate.

That's not rush hour. Imagine 1 foot of unplowed snow on this:

Whatever you say. Happy work commutes during snow storms requires experienced drivers and good plowing.

But anyway, even off-road in 1 foot of snow, hitting the rev limiter in 4lo is not usually the best technique. Maybe you were just trying to be funny, which is cool. I do agree that sending it can be fun.

^Maybe you get dry powder in your region? 1 ft of snow is up to the hubs. In northern Ontario the snow is usually quite wet, with icy bottom, and it's easy to bog down in 4hi.

    upload_2025-1-1_0-37-0.png

I'm usually in 4lo, in 2nd gear to prevent the ECM from upshifting early and bogging down. I usually don't need to redline it unless the snow is deeper, like 2 ft:
