Has anybody notice it feels like when you drive your Tacoma it takes a while to find the right gear?

If you try staying at a constant speed on flat ground that problem will go away. However, If you speed up or slow down, or go up hills, it won't be in the correct gear, so it will have to change gears, because it's in the wrong gear.

This is my first Tacoma. I try to keep the speed steady but still I can hear it. I have 4 in straight pipes , it's almost like it's straining sometimes

    How many miles?

2 things: 1. You may need the tranny TSB. 2. The tranny has to learn your driving style.

Only at 300 miles or so and have only had it strain a bit on big hills accelerating but have read that the system adapts to you. No other issues.

TSB....Technical Service Bulletin. For the tranny TSB Toyota will flash the computer in the truck to reprogram the shifting points on the transmission. After this the truck will no longer hesitate going into gear from reverse to drive or search for proper gear while driving. The Transmission TSB solved these issues on my truck. Only thing to note is that by flashing the computer, you will need to drive about 1000 miles for the computer to re-learn your driving style.
