Since we have "smart" alternators, you are better off with a DC-DC charger charging your second battery rather than using a ML-ACR.

If you do use an ACR, regularly charging the battery with an external charger is a very good idea.

I'm looking at the REDARC BCDC1220. Yes, it might be overkill.

I have a 2015 TRD OffRoad. I plan to install lithium, which requires at least 14.4v to charge properly. I have been monitoring the voltage at my start batter for a couple months. On nice days @ 70 degrees, the voltage drops to 13.4v. With some line loss to get the power to the battery in my bed, I will be down to 13.0v. I don’t think I have any choice but to install a DC/DC charger. I am thinking of the Marine Grade sterling unit.

If you have not already checked out the REDARC website I strongly recommend doing so. I'm going to use a group 31 AGM as a start battery and a lithium battery for the AUX stuff and the Redarc BCDC12225D to handle the charging rate and the different battery types. In a video, they talk about installing the charger close to the battery so it can adjust the charge rate to make up for any voltage drop due to run length. Good luck!

I am in the process of installing a CTEK D250SA DC-DC charger for my second battery, an Odyssey.

Once I installed the silicon diode from HKB, my charging voltage jumped to 14.4V.

Do you still have that HKB diode installed? How do you like it? Are you using it with the Blue Sea stuff?

    Yes, still installed. No problems.

By "Blue Sea stuff", do you mean an ACR? No, I am installing a CTEK DC-DC charger for my 2nd battery. I should finish this project this weekend.

I would probably turn the battery closest to the fender well 180 degrees. The battery posts seem too close to another metal object.

So I've got dual AGMs under the hood, and I'm getting around to running power to the bed. My issue: in the bed I have some removable storage that I want to wire everything into - some USB/12v plugs, an inverter, etc. I'd rather not mount the fuse block for all this stuff to the bed, as that makes removing the storage tedious. What I'm thinking about doing is:
    • Wiring the fuse block and all the accessories to the removable storage
    • Running power from a circuit breaker under the hood to the passenger-side bed cubby
    • Running ground from that cubby down to the frame somewhere
    • Terminating both power and ground with Anderson plugs that stow away in the cubby
    • When the storage is in and I need to power everything, connect the fuse box to power using said Anderson plug
Anything obviously crazy about this solution (assuming the correct gauge wire for the amperage/length)? Would you fuse near the end of the run in addition to having the breaker near the beginning just for some redundancy?

I have a power wire running from my battery to a circuit breaker, down the passenger side, along the frame up behind the tail light where it goes to a 6 circuit blue sea fuse block. Then from there, it goes to a panel that I have put into the bed with 2 usb ports, a 12v plug and a volt meter. This sounds similar to what you want to do, but I didn't run anything to the cubby on either side because the drivers side has a dual ARB compressor in it and the passenger side I wanted to keep available for storage.
