Yes, the blue sea ML-ACR is a MONSTER!!!!!

You have a source for the discontinuation of the 7622? I'm curious now. Might need to stock up on them for other people. I'll give them a call tuesday also to pry a little further.

I know BUSSMANN Makes them, errr a version of them. The ACR also has a 24v version, maybe they are revamping them in some way?

I might just look for another one on the cheap online to take apart just to post disassembled pics of it.

Believe me when I say, i do my research. From what I found out there in the wild, this was the absolute best off the shelf system I could find. Besides the lack of an actual 'gauge' - that is what drew me to redesign the switch. When I can come up with the MOQ (minimum order quantities) for the switch, then I feel it will be THE BEST. Switch will be able to be integrated into any other system out there on the market too.

It's just wasn't showing up under blue sea's drop-down menu. But once I searched directly for it it's showing up now.

    My bad.

so when you guys install your dual batterys, are you putting circuit breakers on both ends of the lead that goes from the isolator and the aux battery if that distance is far? say, i have the aux battery under the bed. put a circuit breaker next to that battery and one next to the main batter?

You would have to have one HELL of a circuit breaker if you plan to use the second battery for a winch or a jump start considering most jump starts can reach 300 amps, and most winches pull 450 amps or more.

Yeah, Bill said it true. NO is the answer. I do battery - Isolator - battery. No breakers.

even with a 18ft run of 0ga wire? i have put mesh sleeving over it, and extra protection against any sharp edges. but just still kinda bugs me having that large of wire with no protection.
and yes, this would not be powering a winch or the starter. I put a 150amp breaker on one side, but wasnt sure what about the other lol.

Unfortunately when it comes to large current draws, it is difficult to protect them, hence the reason there are only a limited number of systems. While mine is not bullet-proof, the 250A charging isolator will protect the primary electrical system in the case of a short in the second battery's cable. It will get a little messy, but it will protect it. However the second battery that is remotely located does not have the same protection. It CAN be protected by a big enough circuit breaker, but when you are talking 450A plus, it is VERY expensive to protect them.

    Bill,
I've been looking at dual batts for about a week. In my research, why do you suppose Piranha, NL, and Painless recommend using in-line 100 amp midi fuse coming off the positives?

By the way, this thread has been full of great gouge...

When I had bought my ACR back in 2012 I paid $150 on Amazon. Seems it's up to 195 now on amazon :eek:. What I like about the ACR the most is that it's a latching relay and doesn't require to be continuously energized to keep the batteries tied together. Also the fact that there's a manual override in case the solenoid plunger does happen to take a dump on ya.

See. There's anti failure built in all over this unit. That's why I like them so much.

I cary jumper cables. More so I can act as recovery for other vehicles.

As for the ML-ACR, might want to contact West Marine, I know there is or was a 20% sale going on.

    LOL ) I see you "b***y ( 33Feedback score is 10 to 49)" - Congrats1!!

Now get some 2/0 or 4/0 gauge so you can take full advantage of the HIGH cranking amps this bad boy is capable of. I have been using 2/0 and watching on eBay for some welding wire in 4/0 at a reasonable price.

You ever thought of storing the Jumper cables in the engine bay? I had my small ones in there for a time. Then I got some 2/0 gauge jumper cables. Wont fit in the spot I had them before.

i think having two on the main run that long isn't a bad idea. You'll want one be the solenoid to pop off if the batteries are linked to stop flow going from the starter battery and you'll want one by the 2nd battery to pop to stop flow from going form it to any from the battery to the solenoid.

Yes just a 100 amp break on the aux box with the 100amp breaker for the blue seas one...i didn't know which one you were using.
