Are there any advantages or disadvantages to having the dual driver's side setup vs. the driver + passenger side? I understand that batteries are heavy and weight distribution is always nice to have even, but will it affect it that much? I have an 07 TRD OR, and I guess I don't really see why one would be better over the other. Would the large weight on the driver's side have fender or mounting issues at all?

Thanks! It is pretty solid. I played around with some other ideas but this one ended up being the most structurally sound for a 60 lb battery. It fits nice and holds the battery tight. I promise to have real world pics up this coming week. I have a ton of pics of the prototype but I don't want those floating around as the actual production model will be much nicer.

Awesome! I will have the single battery trays available in Aluminum by the end of next week.

Hahaha. Thanks man.. we'll get you hooked up!

No problem. Give me another couple of weeks and we'll have a very nice design for you. The packages are almost ready to go.

    Lol. Thanks!

You hit the nail on the head. Some people prefer to distribute the weight more evenly. The passenger side setup is ideal for that purpose. However, I have been running dual batteries on the drivers side fender for over ten years and over 300k miles. See below for my very first dual battery system that I designed in 03. This is the system that was featured in Overland Journal. (I guess the dual batts in the Taco were less common then). This system lived in my 03, and then was transferred to an 04, and now a very similar system in my 15. I've always run my batteries there and have never encountered a problem or damage to the vehicle. I also have never been able to notice a significant difference in ride height or quality.

One of the most important attributes of a dual-battery system is a properly deigned tray in which to set your 100+ lbs worth of batteries. A flimsy tray or poor design will allow fender damage.

So, in short, both methods are awesome... I currently run both! Dual's on the drivers side and single on the passenger side. This is for R&D of course... but it never hurts to have three batteries! haha

I'm in the middle of installing a 2nd battery. I'm taking my time. I've installed a $13 WirthCo metal battery tray on the passenger side. I too am concerned with extra weight on the driver side - when I installed 5100's, I measured the springs and the driver side were almost 3/16ths shorter. Yesterday, I upgraded the fusebox-battery cable. OEM is a measley six or eight gauge wire; it's now a beefy 2 gauge.

Very cool. Always nice to meet another local. I'll let you know if I need another truck to check out for sure. And if you end up wanting a kit, you're welcome to come over for an install session!

    Very cool! Nice work!

Question... Did you have to relocate or cut anything for that location?

Had to get rid of OEM air duct. May leave it open or buy some ducting to re-route it. I know I will have problems passing the visual smog inspection in CA. Will not take long to remove the battery and re-install the OEM air duct for a few hours.

There is a kit to relocate the PS reservoir and slip a group 27 tray next to the radiator. But, you have to get longer PS hoses and customize a bracket. I couldn't find the site, but I saw it on another 2nd battery thread.

Ive seen that too. Very creative design. However, I know a lot of people would prefer a bolt-in option without the hassle of creating custom brackets and cutting/ extending hoses and wires.

really impressive work. Subd and more interested in the dual tray. Will you offer or recommend an auxiliary fuse box?

    Thanks!

I couldn't be more impressed with Blue Sea products. Depending on my sources, I may be offering their fuse boxes with some kits. Either way, thats what I would recommend.

I'll weigh in as I have been through this several times. I currently have a Blue Sea 12 fuse block and while it's perfectly fine for simple fused accessories, I have 3 accessories requiring relays with a couple more planned. The Bussman integrated blocks are, IMO, a much neater way to do it if you can fit within their 5 micro-relay & 10 fused accessory limits.
