I know this has been beat more than a red-headed step child, but the search feature didn't answer all my questions. I'm going to start calling around to find a TRD offroad e-locker axle housing and 3rd member to swap in. Wanted to have some further advice before I buy though.

    1. Is there any difference throughout the second gen axles that would change the direct bolt up fittment? IE: is there a difference between a 2007 E-locker full axle vs. a 2015 e-locker full axle?

    2. Is the spline count different than the 4.10, or can I reuse my stock axles with the TRD 8"?

    3. Are people commonly regearing with this swap? Going from a 4.10 to 3.73 is the wrong direction for me. Would 4.56 be acceptable for a Daily with 31" tires, or would that be overkill?

any other suggestions before putting the hammer down?
    Thanks folks

4.56 would be a little much on 31s in my opinion. I'm looking into the e locker swap too, find any good info on fitment or differences on 12-15 tacos? Mines an 06

    Couple of things.

you wont find a stock TRD e locker axle for the 2nd gens in a 4.10 ratio stock... so factor that price into the price of the swap on top of the full axle as you know that the 2.7 6 lugger has 4.10's stock.

Putting JUST the e locker 3rd into your non elocker housing is a pain... dont even bother.

My opinion, unless you get the full axle in good condition for cheap (like 300 bucks cheap) dont even bother. Simply go the ARB locker route and things will be easier and likely cheaper in the end.

Also if you go with the ARB you can keep your stock 4.10 gearing for now and if you feel the need step to a 4.56

As far as physical fitment you could bolt an elocker axle to a non elocker truck no problems, dimensions are the same for all the mounting points. But then you have to figure out the wiring on the elocker.
