So I purchased a 2011 Tacoma Double Cab TRD Sport two weeks ago. Love everything about the truck, except the crappy stock paper speakers. They had to go. Today I installed Rockford Fosgate Prime R165-S 6.5" Component Speakers in the front doors and Rockford Fosgate Prime R165X3 6.5" 3-Way Speakers in the rear doors. Thanks to *********.com for making a great tweeter adapter. I had custom tweeter adapters made to fit the new tweeters. ********* shipped the same day I ordered them and I received them in two days (Texas to Maine) pretty impressive! Thanks *********.com. The speakers are currently running off the stock head unit, but the sound is amazing and I can once again enjoy listening to music. Here's a couple of pictures.

Did you notice very much of a loss in volume with the new speakers or did you have to install an amp?

I have the Toyota / JBL system and am impressed with the sound quality.

    Welcome to TW!

And yes, the stock stereo's that come with the Tacoma are terrible. :D

Slight difference...but it depends on what source I'm listening to. For example playing CD's require less volume than listening to stations on SiriusXm. Still loud enough for me though. May replace the stock head unit and install amp and subs down the road, but this works for now.

Very surprised you have any bass at all with that setup. I replaced my stock fronts first, and actually used my stock rears as bass fill until I bought a new HU. I'm running 6x9s in the front though, so the woofer may have needed a little too much to run.

Even after the new HU, I'm still looking into a small amp to run the 6x9s better.

I'm looking forward to getting this exact same set up. I'm a huge fan of Fosgate. how was wiring the Tweeters? I've read some horror stories about that but i think its mostly because people on here get 2 or 3 channel front speakers then attempt to bypass the tweeters. Did you just get a separate plug and play wiring harness for the tweeters?!
