Thanks! And thanks for understanding epa4wd.

One thing to take note of is that the switch backlighting is green, so if factory orange is what you're after, you may be disappointed. I like the fact that the green lighting matches the green light indicator for the headlights on the tachometer.

Did you happen to take pics of the wiring? Now I'm curious about that too!

I didn't take pics of the wiring but I can at some point. Of course its raining like hell here today. I might be able to explain it.

The harness was similar to the ones mentioned here earlier. It came in two pieces, just like the others.

The first part of the harness (inside the cab) had a plug that hooked directly to the OEM switch, a red wire that hooked to the "add-a-fuse", a black ground wire that I hooked to the lower fuse panel mount bolt, and a common wire (white) that ran through the firewall to meet the other harness.

The "under the hood" harness had a factory plug for each light, a plug that hooked to the supplied relay (which I mounted on the fender next to the battery), a black ground wire that I hooked to the fender (just like the pics on page 1), a red power (with in-line fuse) that I ran into the under hood fuse block, and lastly the common (white) that plugged into the wire I ran through the firewall.

I'll try to get some pics of everything once the rain lets up.

EDIT: I just took a look at the wiring diagram and pics from the 1st/2nd pages of the post. It looks like the harness is pretty similar, with the exception of two things. My harness did not have any of the white plastic connectors. Also, on both halves of the harness the power wire was red and the ground was black (there was something about the "white wire with inline fuse" in the earlier posts). Also, the entire harness (both halves) was covered entirely with black shrink wrap (some of the kits on Ebay show just a bunch of wires zip tied together). Either way, whatever harness you choose will be pretty straightforward to install, even for dummies like me. :)

Thank you! This thread answered several questions, primarily that the tan and brown harnesses don't plug in anywhere, and I had to do it manually. After 9 hours of running to the store for add-a-circuit, fuses, etc. then fixing a malformed alignment screw hat, and super gluing the alignment bracket after it broke due to the malformed hat, they are finally installed and aligned.

Great thread. Thanks to all for sharing your knowledge and experience.

I purchased the same kit as shanomac from the seller on Ebay - "x3racing". Link below:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-...Q5fAccessories
The install was very simple and straightforward, even for a "newbie" like me, but I have a few issues and would appreciate some help:

    1. The fog lights snapped into place and seem to be held by two protruding "studs" (one on each side of the light) that fit into matching holes on the bumper. There is about a 1/4" gap all around the light -as if the light wants to sit deeper in the cone shaped bumper. This results in the lights being free to pivot up-and-down but held in place side-to-side. I read earlier in the thread about some alignment screws, and noticed that there appears to be a bracket on the bumper, but no screws anywhere. Since this is an aftermarket install on a Tacoma that never had fog lights, do I need to purchase screws? And if so, will this eliminate the lights flopping up and down in the 1/4" gap (i.e. the gap is supposed to be there to allow the lights to be adjusted/aligned)?

    2. The harness kit is very simple – not much room for installation errors, BUT something is wrong with my install. Quoting shanomac, “Take-away from this post is that the kit I bought (as there's many) came with a flawless wiring harness. 3 wires to manually hook up; the rest all have connectors on them. It is the "harness for dummies" such as myself.”

Here are my symptoms: Fog lights not coming on.

What I have tested so far: Obvious power to kit-supplied switch, as the switch is illuminated when the Tacoma’s headlights are turned on. When the switch is depressed (to turn on the fog lights), the switch illumination gets brighter, but fog lights do not come on. I checked for power (with amp/volt meter) at the harness connector to the fog light and am not getting power to fog light. I also confirmed that I have power from both/either side of the main power supply at the kit-supplied fuse under the hood. I used the “add-a-fuse” inside the cab and connected it to the taillights fuse block. The taillights are functioning properly.

My install: I choose to connect the main power supply directly to the battery (rather then to the under hood fuse box) because it was easier.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Did anyone buy the pigtails & plug from the dealer that go into the back of the oem switch? The price sucked but made using the oem switch with the ebay kit much simpler.

Has anyone had to buy the part/parts needed to adjust the fog lights for an aftermarket kit?

My Taco didn't come with fog lights and there are no alignment screws so my lights are flopping up and down. I called Dealer and they said I had to buy the entire light assembly (over $200.00 per side) to get the adjustment screws.

I just need to know what part/parts I am missing and where to get them. Attached pics show what I have.

    Thanks

Pic number two. There should be a screw with a plastic cover over the head of it that snaps into the bumper eyelet if that makes any sense. It keeps the fog light from pivoting up and down. There's also a plastic dial below the screw that allows for beam adjustment. Seems like your lights are missing it.

Do these parts typically come with the aftermarket fog light kits or are they normally found on the bumper when you remove the plastic cup that covers the holes?

When looking at the various kits, none mentioned these parts in the "whats included" list.

Any idea where I can buy the parts I need?
Anybody have pics of what it is supposed to look like?

    Thanks

Ignore the super glued part on the left. On the right you can see the screw with the white gear around it and the plastic hat. You are missing that screw and hat
(one of my hats had a malformed clip, see how it sticks out more on the left) That was the original purpose of that pic.

I think I may have gotten a slightly different kit, but that part should remain the same.

It should be part of the light housing. I don't think you can get parts for it. Is returning them an option?

RichXKU - Thanks for the pic. That explains alot.

CubanTaco - I'm not sure I understand what you mean by part of the "light housing". Does that mean when you guys bought your aftermarket fog light kit it was included in the kit? Or should my truck have had these attached to the bumber even though it didnt have factory OEM fog lights?

Here is a pic of an aftermarket foglight from K2 (left) and a stock foglight I was lucky enough to get on ebay (right).

Both units come with the adjuster screw installed.

Yes, it was included. Mine was base model with no fogs and no switch and no wiring. The ebay kit came with the adjusters on the lights. They just popped into the bumper after removing the blockout fog delete filler thing that was there.

+2, yessir, came complete just like your pic..........
