ECGS bushing swap meet

Anyone still need to do this? My bushing is being delivered 12/3 and I will hopefully be installing it soon after.

 

Here's the video I used. Was an easy job with two people. Best method for CV removal was the screwdriver on the notches.

I had Mule do it. I think was just over $150. Seemed totally worth it to me for the time, since I didn’t do it when I did all my suspension work.

 

Thanks for the video that helps. Ive changed out CVs so no problem there, I am more worried about getting the bearing out without the needles falling into the dif.

 

After completing about six of these bushings only 1or2 came out completely whole. Most had a small sliver of metal brake off. The trick was to use a telescopic magnet to retrieve the little piece and remember to stuff the diff opening with plastic bubble rap thus preventing any metal going the wrong way

I just got my Tacoma and plan to lift it, so I may need to do this. I’m in Renton.

 

I just did the Bilstein 5100 + AAL kit and now feeling the vibs. Dignostic trick of switching on 4H (vibes gone) and back to 2H (vibes back) suggests the ECGS is needed.

 

How high did you lift? Which spring?

 

Went to the highest setting with stock springs. Didn't expect to have the vibs materialize given the 5100 kit isn't considered a "lift".

Did the ECGS this past weekend and it's all better now.

 

I'm going 5100s w 887s so a 2in lift.

 

You'll probably need it. I have a 2 inch lift and my bearing started vibing

 

Well see. I know the ome will sag a quarter inch pretty quick, so. But it's crazy how some trucks need em and some dont.

 

I’ve had my 3” on for a year and haven’t noticed any vibration. I finally have my kit and tool now. I’ve been holding off for a little better weather so I don’t drag a soaking wet or frozen truck in the shop to work on. Hopefully I’ll get to it this weekend.

 

Just for another point of reference...on mine I had OME 885s and no vibration. When I switch to 888s, the vibration kicked in. 885s gave me probably 1.5-2" lift. 888's upped it to probably around 2.5".

 

I know it's been said before - since you have a lot of the stuff apart when doing the 5100. I'd recommend just plan on doing the ECGS while you are there. The biggest challenge I had was the stuck sway bar link on the knuckle. I ended up removing the link from the swaybar side and removed the whole knuckle. I also removed the strut. To me this made all the difference in accessing the tight confines to work the extractor.

 

I still have to do mine...if we weren't so far apart I'd suggest meeting up. Good luck with yours if you get to it this weekend.

Saturday March 7th? I should have all my parts in the next 2 weeks so that gives me a 1 week buffer. Hopefully my wheels will be here by then also.
