just wanted to CLOSE this and call myself the monkey's uncle!! LANDFIL..i dont know if you still play on this forum, but you friggen nailed. it. i did what you said and it fixed it momentarily so i wrote if off (as not it), and moved on to the next suspect. today, it was cold and i have not driven the truck for a long time, the noised stayed long enough for me to pull over, my wife to jump in the driver's seat and me to pop the hood. when she gently reved the motor, i located it!!! mine was close to your problem.!! the foam wore off the intake snorkel and it has been chattering away against the fender!! when i grabbed it, the silence was like gospel. i scraped it off the old foam and put on a new fresh coat of weatherseal ($6), and it is very quiet. tomorrow morning after a nice cool down it should be gone. i am damn hopeful, and pretty positive this is it!!

I had this same problem! Looked at exhaust heat shields first and no luck. I saw something on tw a couple years ago about the air intake rubbing on the fender and gave that some attention. I think I shimmed mine up a bit. Anyway haven't heard that noise again. Thanks tw
