So here is the new & improved deal:

There is new information throughout this article from newly obtained content from BioLite, last Friday 11MAR16.

It's link heavy, but all the links work, send me a PM if they don't. This initial post also gets updated almost daily as I get new information from BioLite.

I found this really neat camp stove that kills several birds with one stone. The BioLite CampStove Bundle allows you to cook with virtually no smoke due to a forced air firebox (think incinerator). Heat output is 13,000 BTU, about the same as the JetBoil. It uses kindling sized sticks, pinecones, pellet stove pellets, Traeger pellets or even smoker woodchips or chunks (Mesquite, Hickory, fruitwood, etc.) for fuel. I've been told that even though the stove is virtually smokeless, the flavor of smoker woods is imparted to whatever is being grilled.

It creates a warming flame (see picture above) that is considered a campstove by the USFS & BLM & safe to use during open fire bans. When you're done using it, just leave the blower on low & when the firebox gets cold enough the fan automatically turns off saving enough electricity to work again for the next use. At this point, the ash inside the firebox is cold to the touch & can be dumped onto a paper plate & not ignite the plate, or even scorch it. The reasons it is USFS & BLM approved are as simple as that, no smoke, no sparks, contained firebox & cold ash when it's done. Most importantly to me is that there's no 1lb. propane "grenades" to carry everywhere. On top of everything else, it converts some of the waste heat using a thermo-electric generator to create 2-4w/5VDC electrical output for charging anything small via USB.

Over the last couple of weeks I tried contacting the company via email & eventually I found their phone number. I received an email on Friday 26FEB16 from the Sales Manager at their headquarters in NYC.

    The Bundle includes:
    CampStove & stuff sack. (video)
Grill, Grill travel covers, the large one can be used as a plate or cutting board. (video)
KettlePot, the small bowl in the picture nests in bottom of KettlePot. (video)
& a touch control dimmable USB LED light.
All metal construction is laser welded stainless steel, except the legs which are aircraft aluminum that dissipates heat better than steel.

Like anything I buy, I thoroughly vett it first. Rather than post all the links to the reviews, I'll just post the search I used. I've read every article on the 1st page & most of the 2nd. The majority of the complaints in the articles were that the stove & stove combo were too heavy for backpacking. At 5-7lbs, I would probably agree. The rest were mostly from those who didn't read the instructions or misunderstood them. But even among these complaints, they said it either would be or is great for car camping, which basically describes what the majority of us do here on TW. (Glamping?)

But wait there's more! The new & improved deal just got better!
There has been enough interest in the BaseCamp Stove model that starting 04MAR16, it will get a similar discount. BaseCamp Stove video

I told the BioLite Sales Manager a little about TW & how the Group Buys I've been in before were arranged. Just like all the other Group Buys here on TW, he has a few reasonable requirements of which we're all familiar with:

    1. You need to send me a PM for the discount/pricing details. (they're both a good deal)**
    a. Shipping is free on any BioLite purchase $75USD or more, so shipping is not a concern. There is a $20 S&H on the BaseCamp, if you purchased one prior to 15MAR16@1000MDT, send me a PM
    2. Group buy minimum order is 20 of the CampStove Bundles. (I was expecting it to take a month to fill the minimum, not 6 days. )
    3. Pricing on this special offer remains private & is not to be advertised publicly.
    4. These are not to be resold on Amazon or eBay.
** There has been a couple of changes to this G/B the week ending 11MAR16 & they will be covered in my reply when you send me a PM for the discount/pricing details.

The coupon is a single use only, so get what you want at the time you order, as any afterthought will be at their regular price.

I may run another one of these G/Bs if the interest continues past the close date, so those on the list in the 1st week don't have to wait what seems like forever to play with their new toy. I myself want to play with it for a month prior to going to 2016 T.a.Co. Rock Therapy.

:oldglory: :canada: There are NO extra shipping costs for Alaska, Hawaii or Canada, just extra time.

BTW, Included in every purchase is a donation towards the BioLite company mission which is really quite ambitious as well.

I like this.. But I do have 1 question.. How is it smokeless..?.. So I get the wood burning part.. But even burning paper causes smoke.. So I guess I may have missed it but I would like to know more about that technology

It isn't smokeless. It is close to it though, for wood burners.

You can do this by creating a very efficient fire box, which the BioLite has.

The yellow thing on the side houses a generator that turns heat into electricity which powers a fan. The fan stokes the flame inside the stove to super heat the fire causing it to burn cleaner than just the wood burning on its own, thus reducing smoke. I've seen this done with just heat differential causing suction in a specifically designed fire box, and I've seen it done with a little AA battery powered fan. The Biolite solution seems a bit of a step ahead since it also allows you to then harness the electricity for other uses. This page: http://www.bioliteenergy.com/products/biolite-campstove has a tab near the bottom called "Inside the Tech" that has a little diagram explaining how it works.

True, not totally smokeless, but what you're cooking won't be obscured by smoke. The BioLite CampStove Bundle allows you to cook w/o smoke due to a forced air firebox (think of an incinerator, or coal fired forge). Much like a supercharger the inducted (forced air injection) increases the air to fuel ratio creating a hotter more efficient burn. Also think of a diesel engine, that big black cloud of smoke on sharp acceleration is nothing more than partially & unburned fuel.

I PM'ed you to get in on this...However, after reading some reviews on the product , I don't think I'd be interested anymore.
When I go hiking, I wouldn't want to carry this weight/size stove. When I go camping I usually have the family with me (and the truck for that matter), and I don't think I'd want to try to accommodate all of us on this small stove. Also, many reviewers were saying that they had to keep adding fuel for the fire every few minutes to keep the fire strong (for charging), due to the smaller firebox. Even so, there were many complaints on not getting enough charging power from the unit. It seems to get great reviews on all fronts except producing extra electricity, and for me it's size is too big for one application and too small for another.

Charging devices when I'm camping with the truck right next to me isn't my primary concern. Being able to heat and cook enough for 5 people is though. The basecamp unit seems to be plenty large enough to do this, and even has a larger capacity for charging.

TL:DR: No longer want the CampStove bundle. Would it be possible to get the bascamp thrown into this? If so, can you PM me the price please?

Thanks for your time/effort on this. All the GB's I see through TW are just awesome...just hard on the bank account...

As I had written in the 1st post, this really isn't a good backpacking stove b/c of the total weight of about 5-7# & also not great for more than 2-3 people, so I can understand. I'll write/call my contact at BioLite & see if the BaseCamp stove can get the same deal. With the retail on it being $300, it'll probably be proportionately higher.

You're right, I was just repeating it. I understand the price will be higher, hoping they'll allow it. Thanks again for taking your time to deal with this GB, even if it doesn't work out for me.

The 5-7 lbs is for the whole combo (stove, cooking pot, grill attachment, etc). The stove itself is only 33oz. My Primus isobutane stove is around 8 oz, and with 2 fuel cans the total package is 24oz. At 33oz, the BioLite is definitely heavier but only by about the weight of a 3rd fuel can. Considering this stove can be used to create heat even when you aren't needing to cook without having to worry about using all your cooking fuel, it's definitely got some pluses over carrying a traditional backpacking stove with fuel cans.

If you do happen to be backpacking instead of car camping, the potential for phone charging in an emergency, even if according to reviews is a pain (feeding all the time, not charging enough, etc) may be worth the extra few ounces. Not to mention the unlimited fuel supply to generate heat (without a banned campfire) and cook.
