Engine Compression Question

    Have a question for you mechanics out there. My father in law is working on his Ford 5610 diesel tractor. He's asking me what PSI he should be reading at the spark plug. It seems like a pretty straight forward calculation to me, but I don't much about it. He's telling me that Ford techs are telling him something way different than what I figured. The manual says the compression ratio is 16.3:1. It's not a turbo. My question is, what should his PSI reading be roughly? Before I tell y'all what I figured and what he's being told, I'd like to hear from you mechanics out there. Or is there a lot more to it than a simple calculation?

    Edit: He lives in Central Texas; 354' above sea level if that's relevant.
