Engine Coolant Question

    I've been looking but have not found any mention of which coolant to use for an 2006 6 cylinder Prerunner with auto trans.

    Any suggestions besides the obvious Toyota brand coolant?

    In addition to what's mentioned in post #2 - Walmart sells a Valvoline product for Toyota's.

    Zerex is apparently part of Valvoline as that product appears at the Valvoline web site.

    The WM Valvoline offering is cheaper than the Zerex product sold elsewhere.

    Could it be these 2 products have the same composition in spite of the price difference?

    Prestone is fine; there is nothing magic in the cooling system of a Toyota that warrants anything special.

    I used some OEM Pink in the wife's rav4, and no issues so far. Looks, smells and tastes like Toyota's/Aisin SLLC pink koolade. I'm using the same stuff in my Tacoma when I get around to it.

    $30 for 1 gallon, concentrated, from Amazon, and distilled water for 90 cents per gallon. Can't beat it.

    I got a gallon of the Zerex Asian pink for Toyota at OReillys this morning.

    My cooling system is being problematic.
    I put half the jug into my rad this morning.

    Its a new rad (10,000 miles ago) with new hoses.

    Can't find any leaks(yet) in my 06 DCSB V6 Prerunner. It has 315k miles.

    The motor runs fine, and the oil looks good. The transmission seems to be operating correctly.
    It was weird, yesterday when I left my job the temp gauge went up to the red after a few minutes when its normally at 1/4 to 1/3 from the cold end. It was hot, but not unusually hot yesterday (108°).

    I'm taking it to my friends shop Saturday to go through it and figure it out.

    Just wondering....could the heater core be a cause? No known symptoms of HC failure that I can see.

    Like the other nay sayers her have said. If I was to make 1 guess it would be head gasket. Sorry have to go with the odds since it’s an 06. Pretty awesome that you’ve got 315k on it!!!

    The reason I ask about heater core is Ive 20190703_194001_Burst01.jpg been noticing a "build-up" of something (that keeps coming back when I clean it) on my passenger side windshield.

    Maybe you can see it in the photo. Down at the bottom of the glass.

    And yes, that is a dead toad on my dash.
