if i was on my own and no toyota warranty to fall back on i would be inclined to try a heavier weight oil

Still have warranty fortunately and this noise is on record. So the more these threads show up the closer we are to a solution.

That ticking the above video first sounds like a cam/lifter, then it goes away like its being oil starved at first.
Back to idle again and it returns and fades with engine speed or oil pressure returns.

Then it seems to fade away after warming???
Is the correct oil weight in the engine,.. does it have oil in the engine,.. has the oil ever been changed??

Diagnosing over a video can be done to a point but with noises,.. no so much.

All oil changes done as required by my local Toyota dealer. The noise seems to come around most when oil is warm and truck is in a cycle of idling and accelerating (i.e. stop and go traffic).

Started noticing it after timing chain cover seal repair.

Thats about the same as some water company v6 fleet tacoma's i've heard. Maybe they get louder with mileage, but i still don't have noise like that from mine with a little over 18k.

It sounds like a bad lifter. That noise is not normal.

That would be a call I would make for sure. Tell the mechanic about the noise he may know immediately what to look for.
Because it definitely sounds like something up top in that area. Possibly associated with the repair something may not be tightened correctly.

Timing chain/belt is a half day repair if all goes well.

I just speed read through all 5 pages and not for nothing but I saw no mention of the tundra 5.7 V8. I’m no automotive genius by any stretch of the imagination but if I’m on the hook for $10K for a new engine, I’m figuring out how to put a V8 in this thing. There’s tons of room under the hood. OP, I don’t know if you’re into it but I’d be looking into engine swap for the Tundra V8. I thought I’ve read about people doing it before but I’ve been drinking a bit and I say send it on the V8 if it’s even possible.

That sounds like shit if it started up after they did a repair I'd take it back. Sounds like top end.

100% ya would but if you’re already dropping 10 grand, why not at least price out what a V8 (even an LS1) would cost? I just know if it were me and I’m already paying 10k, what if it’s only another 3-4k for a V8? I’d drop another 3-4 and get a V8 and have an extremely rare and capable Tacoma. Just a thought

Car-part.com is a salvage yard search website. Have used it many times to locate parts.

If that product would solve the issue, Ford would mandate it at all the dealerships and get out of a lot of very expensive repairs (aprox $10,000 last time I checked). Cam Phasor repair for EB 3.5 is a major job taking 10 hours of work and usually involves removing the body from the truck, front and top tear down of the engine before they can even start working on the cams and the replacements can fail too. Oh the engine is awesome otherwise. The guys/gals who change their labels from ecoboost to ecobeast aren't just blowing smoke. It is a beast...til it experiences cam phasor failure and if an oil additive could fix that, they'd use it.

Well, if you're willing to shell out that much might want to consider a diesel conversion.
