    Holy thread revival batman.

How many miles on your truck? When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed? If you pull the trans dipstick out, is the fluid dark brown or smell burned?

When you say you bought a filter, do you mean the screen that goes inside the transmission pan? You'll need to drain the pan to take it off obviously, you'll get about 5 quarts or so out of it. Replace with new when you're done sealing the pan back up, and you should be good to go.

Strange that the post your quote happened. I just dumped my transmission fluid, dropped pan, replace filter, cleaned up pan, applied FIPG, bolt it back on with new bolts ( been snapping them lately but only on this toyota ), add transmission cooler and filled it back up to spec. Driven +1k miles so far.

Another great answer when people are asked when the last time they checked their transmission fluid or changed it is......"I thought is was an Automatic!"

Well mine (that is CURRENTLY suffering transmission problems similar to the OP) is an automatic 6 cylinder and i have only added fluid when it was low (which hasnt been much). The fluid looks pretty good Im pretty certain~ still red & clear. Ive had the truck for about 3 years and its never had a flush or anything. The filter i bought has a screen Im pretty sure. But now after reading these posts Im kinda scared to change it out! (Or have my friend change it, rather, but you get the idea) There is over 200 thousand miles on the bastard... What else would i be able to do to it to possibly prevent full transmission replacement if it has delayed engagement? The fluid is all I mess with!

Another thing Ive noticed is that sometimes its easy to knock the shifter into neutral, dont even need to press the button.. Does that mean anything?
