Engine smell when climbing

    My father in-law has a cabin in the mountains and there is a severe climb of about 1/4 mile ... and I am talking steep!!!

    When I get to the top my engine smells like burnt oil or something like that.

    Does anyone know how this happens or if I am doing damage to my engine?

    Things are getting warmed up a bit. My car / truck do it every trip up the mountain to my house, most noticeably if I was in a hurry to get home.
