Engine swap, HELP!

I have a 1996 Tacoma with a 2.7 3Rz and it started to knock real bad all the time now. What years of the 3Rz will fit a 1996 and can 8 do a 3.4 swap and what changes will I need??

 

Pretty much any 3RZ will work if you use your engine harness and ECM

Not sure when they went to drive by wire .

You can do a 3.4 swap it depends on your skill level how much you can do yourself

Major area is the engine Harness and ECM then merging that with your truck harness

Exhaust system

Having done one on a 22R engine I know the engine mounts need moved

This is off the top of my head A search with your favorite search engine should get lots of info

 

What about the transmission?

 

I think that you will need to get a transmission that came with a 3.4L. Also, how many miles did the 3rz have when it started knocking?

I'm pretty sure your 3rz has a distributor, so you need a 3rz with a distributor. I'm pretty sure the year range you need is 95.5-97 98-00 use dual coil packs, and 01-04 use coil on plug. Also, 95.5 to 00 use 8 port intakes and 01-04 use 4 port intake.
