Aloha! I alternate between Maui and Orange County in CA.
Bought a Taco SR for my work truck in So CA. It's going to be used on dirt roads but nothing too hardcore. Plan to be full time and retired on Maui in about a year or so.

I've done several small mods: Added keyless entry, LED headlights, tweeters/speakers, trailer hitch/wiring, used alloy wheels from a 2007? Tacoma, Bilsteins all around, ceramic window tint....

For all of the above mods, I spent around 1200 bucks. Not exactly a bargain, but I enjoy working on my own car and seeing the results of my hard work...

Disclaimer: My son-in-law has a tint shop in CA so I paid only for material, no labor.
The wheels I purchased used and had my buddy re-mount the new tires and install them for $200. I installed the Bilsteins in my driveway without loosening the adjusting bolts. Took a bit longer than I wanted (3.5 hours) but didn't need to get an alignment. Ask me if you want the full story...

Nothing fancy, per se, but it does what I need it to do.

Thinking about adding an amp to the stereo....

Welcome Brian. Sounds like a similar Tacoma to mine. Is it a 4x4?

Apologies for the delayed post...work and life have been keeping me quite busy.

    It's 2WD.

Had an issue with the passenger seat track; it was separating somewhere and caused a hard, metallic knocking noise when going over moderate bumps.
Very annoying. It took a couple of trips to the dealer but issue has finally been resolved under warranty; now nothing is rattling around the interior. Had to wait for S/O parts then had to go back a second time to re-calibrate the OPDS; I originally thought that the passenger seat cushion sensor was installed incorrectly after the repair was completed. The fasten seatbelt warning lamp would turn ON at random times intermittently.

Driveability and fuel economy have improved over the 5000 miles I've put on. Fuel economy is in the 22-23 MPG range and expect it to improve slightly as time goes on. I noticed the idle quality is dependent upon the fuel I use; Shell and Chevron seem to work best here in So CA. Acceleration is leisurely yet adequate even when towing my motorcycle/trailer. The Bilsteins really helped control the ride; not sure if my original shocks were defective.

Am pleased overall with the decrease in NVH when compared to my buddy's 2001 model; the body structure (post seat repair) feels much more substantial and solid. The hood has quite a bit of weight in it; quite surprised!

Did my 1st oil change at 5000 miles; oil was black. Did drive on some dirt roads late last year. At 10,000 miles I'll do an oil analysis.

I just purchased a 2019 Taco SR just like yours where I also have added the keyless entry and LED headlights. What did you use for the tweeters/speakers and the trailer hitch and wiring? I've used U-Haul before on the trailer hitch/wiring (for my wife's 2011 Dodge van). However, their wiring messed up the rear LED tail lights and we had to disconnect it. So, with that in mind, I would prefer to go OEM or something that is reliable, but I'm not finding anything OEM except the receiver ball mount. Thus my question.

Hello, I bought the Subaru tweeter kit, a Kicker part, and they bolt right in. (Amazon p/n: H631SFJ101)
Had a problem with the Metra speaker adapters so I sent the rest back to Crutchfield.
As far as the trailer hitch and wiring, I bought those ftom ETrailer. They're not the cheapest but their service is good.
Curt trailer hitch and Tekonsha wiring harness. Hitch installs in 20 min., easy. Be sure to mount the wire harness controller in the left taillight housing so that the wires have the maximum amount of slack; I didn't so I had to splice in about 6 inches of wire near the right rear taillamp assembly. Plus, I routed the wires to follow an existing harness. Didn't take shortest route.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions. Good luck with whatever path you take. Brian

Thanks MauiBrian. The Curt hitch and Tekonsha wiring is what I was looking at too and I likely will follow the same path. And thanks for the tips on the wiring harness controller. I'll have to give some thought about the speaker setup as I believe you have to take the dash off. Not a big priority but I do like tunes and the factory set isn't the best by a long shot.

Just so you know, the tweeters do not require dash removal. IIRC the A pillars are removed then the tweeters lift out. Check around on TW.
I have the Alpine amp that just needs to be installed....

Yes, the intermittent wipers came in handy this past winter.
