Hopped in the Taco for work this morning and a notice came on the screen saying that there was a mandatory update. However, every time I tried to go through the update, the download was unsuccessful...then the Update button was no longer available after a few unsuccessful downloads. I have now noticed that the apps that require use of my phone data are now blacked out and cannot be accessed.

    Later.

Was your phone connected via BT or USB to your head unit? I had the same thing this morning and the update downloaded fine and installed fine while I was on the road.

BT...but I was close enough to my house for my phone to still be on WiFi and I wonder if the transition from WiFi to 4G (as I drove off) confused the heck out of the whole thing.

Yep. That's what does it. Happens in my wife's Toyota. It'll come back. It should only take a minute to download. They're not usually that big of files.

I had no trouble with the update this morning, and really did not notice any changes on the drive in to work.

It is very possible that the switch caused an issue for you. I would suggest rebooting the phone prior to reconnecting to your truck with Wifi off, unless you are going to stay within the wifi range until it completes the update.

I have problems with Pandora if it has not completed the startup before I leave Wifi and switch to the phone network (drive away from office or house). When this occurs I normally can not get it to correctly start unless I reboot my phone. It seems that the pandora app startup via the phone gets locked up due to the loss of wifi during it's startup. Since I am on an unlimited data plan, I do not frequently have my phone connected to wifi and do not regularly experience the issue.

    Good luck!!

Do you have it setup to update in the settings? Also, do you connect a smart phone to your truck?

Check in there. It's buried somewhere. I've stumbled across it a couple of times.

Update received here this morn as well, I have the JBL unit. I believe it was for maps/apps.

    Also, check:
https://securedp.toyota.com/download-app/getUpdates . Just downloaded entune update for 2017 Tacoma that was updated via tsb last September. This is 010192, my previous version was 01018C . Note, entune did not recognize the update until I used a USB formatted in FAT32, and pulled the NAV SD Card.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Took me about 6-7 times before it finally went through. My guess is their software download site is getting more requests than it can handle!?

One more troubleshoot: I had my OBD wireless adaptor in for OBD fusion, wouldn't download until I removed that and then restarted the truck and tried downloading again.

Coincidence? Totally possible, but worth a shot if you're having trouble

Same EXACT thing happens to me!

I found that just resetting the Bluetooth connection on the phone does the trick most of the time, it's quicker than restarting the phone (iPhone 6 here).

HOPEFULLY this latest update will improve Pandora connectivity, it's pretty much the only music I listen to when it's available.
