Hey guys sorry for post jack :( I have a 2012 TRD Sport. I trael here in TX on I35 a lot. My navigation does not seem to have most of the new road changes. Drives me crazy as Nav thinks I'm getting on and off course as I head to Dallas or Austin. I did the only etune update I see but it's 2016 date? Can I update Nav from any other source?

These type of updates are firmware only, not map data.

I should have clarified. I am speaking about two different updates. The first one, most should have received yesterday and was an “over the air” update, meaning it downloaded through your phone. Phone must be connected via Bluetooth, and data allowed.(apps, maps, firmware)

The second is a 160mb update for the actual entune software that is downloaded from the Toyota website. You will need a usb to transfer the files to and install from there. Instructions on the Toyota site.

If your ‘18 didn’t didn’t get the over the air, and is not listed on the Toyota site for the entune update, it either has the update from factory (doubt it) or they haven’t updated the site to include those models.

Check your version in entune and report back. Mine is JBL or entune audio premium

On your radio Apps>setup or settings>scroll to bottom, Updates, the versions will be listed there.
(The versions listed below are post over the air, pre-manual update from entune downloaded from Toyota site. The audio updated to 010192 after manual)

Gotta buy the new map SD from Toyota...$189 I think, new roads may or may not be there. Would have to confirm w/ another ‘12 owner that has the new map card. Toyota buys this data from a GIS or mapping company, that’s why it’s not free.

I don't think the 12' Tacoma uses a SD card for their maps but whatever method (DVD, USB, SD) they use you should be able to find a more recent map update on eBay pretty cheap.

I know, at least for my 2017, that you have to buy a new map card for almost $200 to get the map updated. BS if you ask me.....I wish they let you run 3rd party maps from Garmin or some other company.

Thanks for the tip! I tried to update it last week a few times and it would never take. Tried it this morning, removed the NAV SD card first, and it worked.

Yeah I don't think I'll ever update the navigation. Used it a couple of times and did fine however I prefer Waze and Google maps cause it takes traffic into consideration and reroutes you if there is a faster route. I wish Toyota would just give in to Android Auto and Apple car play

I guess I'm just an OLD FART dumb sheet... I can not even find any update or site for the 2012 Tacoma. Anyone have an aftermarket system the like that still has steering wheel controls?

Been watching the download site for a long time waiting for an update. Glad it’s finally here. Installed yesterday, hope this fixes my random crashes. Bluetooth communication seems more responsive now on my truck (changing tracks etc) so it’s at least a step in the right direction so far.

Entune navigation will offer to reroute you if there are traffic issues.

The problem is, it's already sending you 15 minutes out of your way to begin with. It is horrible. I'll probably never use it myself. I'll use my phone instead.

This is the truth and then some. I wouldn't spend a penny on updating the entune system.

Oh and 15 minutes is a good day, I have seen it be an hour off on a 35 minute drive before.

I guess I have never given it that good of a chance to see how it does in real time traffic, but I know the display without navigation shows low traffic when there is actually a pretty good slow down. Very true that it's seems as though it's behind as far as detecting traffic conditions
