I have a 2011 toyota tacoma,I installed Hertz hi energies up front,It's a component set which is awesome,I have that running off of a jl 4 channel,I bridged that to get more power up front,The sub is a jl slim mount 10",I have a jl audio 500/1 powering the sub,I deadened all the doors and rear wall and used foam rings for the door speakers.After adjusting the amps with the

SMD DD1 and tuning the pioneer avh-x5800bhs,It sounds great just a lack off bass,I understand it's just a 10" and it's only 500 watts,My question is would a epic center help out in any way to give me more of a bass feel?I was not sure if it would be wise to invest in one.Thank you so much for any help or any suggestions.

 

You mean Epicenter? Probably wouldn't do much for you that a bass knob wouldn't. You're only gonna get so much output out of a slim 10.

 

Thank you for helping me, That makes total sense to me, Might move up to a 12" sub soon.

 

I have the Epicenter, and I love it, but I agree you may just want a bigger sub, or add another slim 10".
I have two slim 10s behind my rear seats, idk if you are a full cab or not but I'd look into dual 10s.

Double cab, What do you think for a sub? The 12" jl slim? or 2 of the slim jl 10"?

 

If you can fit one of these, it's hard to beat. The 10 works well in 1/2 cubic feet where the 12 wants a full cube. I have the 10. It's pretty awesome but since you're already output limited might as well go for the 12 if you can. The motors on these are pretty big though - so mounting at an angle in a shallow enclosure can get tricky.

 

Thank you!! So if i went with a 12" sub,Now im looking into a whole new box,Would the box be a high box from top to bottom not like the half box i have now for my 10" sub?Any mods i have to do?My box now would do me no good with a more powerful 10" since jl likes to have a odd cut out..lol!!

 

That look like a nice heavy sub in the picture you posted,What is the rms rating on that?

 

500 and it's Sundown's only sub where that's really the limit. Most of their subs are very conservatively rated but the SD is the lone exception. I'm giving one 585W and it's too much.

Not sure what your box would be like - dunno what it's like now. Sealed is easy enough and this sub wants a small sealed box. Just get the size right.

 

I have been very happy with my Epicenter. I was a bit skeptical about it, but after doing some research I decided to try it. There is certainly no replacement for displacement, but my 1st gen double cab has an incredibly small area behind the rear seat so I had to wedge in a 10" slim Pioneer in a box that was just at the recommended minimum volume for the speaker. The bass response rolls off fairly quickly in that small sealed box. The Epicenter really brings out the deep bass. It does so at the expense of a lot more speaker excursion, but if you aren't looking to break windows and just want more deep bass at reasonable volumes it is a good option. It also helps a ton with older music that either doesn't have much bass or the bass was rolled off in mixing. ZZ Top and the Rolling Stones sound like they were made with modern day bass content if I crank up the Epicenter knob.

Use the calculator on this page to determine the interior dimensions of your enclosure. Scroll down to the triangular enclosures for a wedge. That'll give you a better idea what your options for a sub are - using that enclosure anyway.

 

How much road noise reduction did you notice with the dynamat/NVX audio that you have installed in the back of the cab?

 

No so much on road noise but i i have no rattles at all and i did the same to all the doors and behind the door panels,It sounds great!Worth it!

 

A damper won't do much for outside noise. You need a barrier for that - like MLV. You'd probably wanna decouple that with some sort of closed cell foam which will block higher frequencies as well as add thermal insulation.

 

Rob do you sell the metal bracket that you can mount a amp to under the seat on the passenger side of a 2011 Toyota Tacoma?or is just for tundras?

 

I don't sell any brackets. I make amp racks out of plastic cutting boards most of the time - they're cheap, easy, effective, strong, non-corrosive, light & available.

 

Can i use one of the plastic brackets to go under the driver seat?Can i mount my hertz energies crossovres to the bracket and maybe room for a dsp?
