Well I was able to clean up the bumper a little today. The previous owner decided it would be a good idea to hide some scuff marks on either corner of the bumper by brushing on some sort of grayish color to hide the scuff marks. By doing so they basically brushed from under the headlights around to the sides of the bumpers!:bang:
Long story short I found while removing my pinstripes with lacquer thinner I tried a little on the bumper and to my surprise it took the paint off with a little elbow grease. One pint of lacquer thinner later the ugly paint is all gone and now I can see what I have to work with. I will likely sand down the scuff marks and spray over the corners with color matched paint, then clear. I'll probably live with them awhile and see how bad they are maybe I won't feel the need to do it right away.
Either way it 100x better than it was..

Started on the roof rack mock up for my 100. Just playing around with some cardboard and some shapes to close off the front and back rather than just cutting it at 90* or 45* once I have a design I'll transfer it onto some aluminum sheet material for the side panels. My cross members will actually be the ones from my taco.

Did a little more work on the DIY roof rack. Realized I need to raise it up from the setting I'm currently at, I thought there would be more room in the middle but it's just barley hovering above the rubber strips in the roof.
I still have the middle cross members to add and the front fairing.
So far all in, I'm at $220 and most of that is from the trail taylor brackets. L channel aluminum and unistrut I'm only at 70.

Yeah, I replaced it right after that post, the leak just got worse and worse by the hour. Luckily no blow up, it was able to keep running until the new rad came.

Picking my 100 up this next week. What are the "heater tees"? And any other "things to look for" when I look this thing over and test drive it? And what do you guys think is a fair price for a '98 with 215k, center/rear diff locks, new Steering rack and pinion assembly w/ eurathane bushings, water pump and timing belt done in the last few thousand miles, and maintenance/service records? Thanks

Well, I'm no expert on these but I'm learning as I go. I strongly suggest registering with the forum IH8MUD.com. Great wealth of knowledge on all things Toyota and especially Land Cruisers! It's the Tacoma World for cruisers!!
Heater Tees are a vital 20 dollar part that is probably the one thing that should be done as soon as you get it. For such an inexpensive part it will give you some piece of mind. I paid 7 for my money pit and I've since put in about as much in maintenance and upgrades. The kicker on value to me besides it's maintenance records would be rust. I passed on a few that ran better, but wholly crap did they have rust. I went to florida to pick up my rust free ride.

Thank you for your reply. I'm gonna look it over really well. Guy is asking $10k, I believe it's a little high, I'm gonna go in at $7,500 and do the dance. KBB has it going for around $6k in good condition for private party, however, with these vehicles and the top 3 Toyota vehicles, I know KBB doesn't reflect popularity with the vehicle, and what people are willing to pay. I'll just have to see tomorrow. Thanks again

Price is dependent on the area. Where are you from?

I can find 100 series in good condition with 200xxx miles for around 9-13k here. I have seen them as low as $5-6k but they need about 3k in maintenance.

Good luck! I seriously love this truck. You won't be disappointed :).

I'm in Dallas. If it's as clean and well taken care of in person as its described online, I'll be a buyer if the guy will come down a little. I think $8,500, possibly $9k if it checks out is a good deal on both ends. Going Wednesday morning, so I'll post back with what I decided. Really hope it works, getting a serious itch for a 100 series. Thanks

Thanks and I'll start a build thread. I'm dropping it off to my mechanic to address a few things, replace all u joints, baseline my fluids, replace both valve cover gaskets and just give it a good once over and button up anything that needs it. Should have it back in a couple of weeks. It's going to be a very slow build, I'm trying to keep this one mild.......but we'll see right?

It has them, wouldn't have bought it if it didn't. But yes you're right, it will be built up, but I just meant not as quickly as my 4Runner and Tacoma were. Slow build, but I guess time will tell. Just excited to get everything refreshed/replaced that needs it.
