    Positively. Increase mid/low range, increased fuel economy. Don't take my word for it. look through this thread to see what others are saying or pm some of them.

    The pedal commander wont effect these. separate systems.

    I'm "stock" motor-wise but I have a tune via HPTuners that requests a little more timing advance and adjusts the throttle mapping. Truck drove better after the tune, but feels more powerful and smooth now with the cam gears.

    They are a great bang for the buck.

    I need to get logs and see if I can get moar powa out of them with a re-tune.

    Yeah, maybe I need to ask more carefully. So, the pedal commander I think interacts with your ECU to adjust torque curve via fuel delivery, adjusting timing, etc. If I am understanding what I have read about pedal commander? These gears adjust timing by lengthening the time exhaust the exhaust valve is open, thereby increasing both mpg and generating some low end power by more completely burning fuel in the cylinder due to previously mentioned increased timing?

    So, I get that there are two different systems, but I suspect that a truck with these gears and a pedal tuner in eco or sport mode would drive somewhat differently than a truck just using pedal commander in the same mode. My question: How do they interact? Does pedal commander go to a predetermined torque curve and then the additional mechanical timing retard still happens via the gears? Is pedal commander constantly adjusting- would it cancel out the gains of these gears and simply perform like a truck only using pedal commander?

    Hopefully you catch my drift- they are both affecting mpg and timing. Are they beneficial/ necessary together?

    I see what you're saying. Explaining it isn't easy but the jist of it is the tables that pedal commander modifies signals for are different tables than those affected by changing these gears. Pedal commander only modifies the signal that would effect the "accelerator pedal position° table. Where as the gears have more to do with knock learn tables and ignition timing.

    Pedal commander is a signal modifier that doesn't change the tables themselves. Hptuners allows changing those tables plus a whole bunch more..

    They make the exhaust valves open later, reducing the overlap when intake and exhaust valves are both open. Duration of valve opening is determined by the camshaft profile which isn't changing here.

    Indeed, the ECU will be able to run more advance (fuel/spark) with the gears, regardless of if you had a pedal commander or not. The pedal commander will continue to work the same as with OEM cam timing.

    Correct, these gears are always doin' their gear thing, and there is no variable exhaust timing on our version of the 1GR.

    It's altering the throttle position signal before it gets to the ECU, but based on my understanding that's all it can do - there is no feedback from the ECU to the pedal commander.

    As mentioned - HP tuners is able to change the tables/calibrations for the throttle pedal, fuel/spark timing, intake runner length change-over, maf calibration table, auto trans shift-points, etc..

    I appreciate all the clarification. I am starting to understand. Im sure I will be back with more half informed questions. :DDefinitely considering adding these to the list of future additions. Need to do the valve cover seals, so will be in there anyway.

    I installed these about 6 weeks ago and have put a few tanks of gas through the truck since then. I was mainly looking for MPG increase but the extra power is nice too. My truck is bone stock besides URD EL headers. Stock ECU no tuning.

    The truck definitely runs better and smoother throughout the rev range. Shifts smoother (6MT) i think because of the better valve overlap and scavenging. feels a bit more powerful in the low-mid range

    Previous MPG was averaging about 16 and maybe 17 if driving VERY gently. MPG's are now 18, 17, 18, 19 MPG in the last few fill ups with normal driving. getting about 310 miles on a tank before dangerously low level. the Gains are worth it in my opinion.

    I'm impressed and would recommend to anybody with a 4.0. @mightytacoman was great to deal with and gave excellent support. He's doing us all a great service by machining these gears for such a great price.
